pvl ignition

Post by lunatic »

Anyone run pvl ignition on their 500? I use them on my drag banshee's and like them. I thought this would be an alternative to a cr250 ignition thats getting harder to find.

It's been brought up in the past. Most guys don't even know what they are. I'm thinking...trying the PVL CR250 ignition on the 500.

Having been using the 250 ignition for a year now, getting all my notes and ducks in a row, I'm far more pleased with the smaller flywheel benefits than I am the improved CDI. My conclusion is an even smaller flywheel is the way to go. PVL = NO flywheel

My only lingering question is if the 250 ignition was digital...the 500s isn't. Seems PVL has their reasoning for analog vs digital backwards to me :? The smaller bores have digital and the big bores don't...stupid.

Penton Racing Products Inc. wrote:...digital version, for engines under 200cc, that is programmed with a permanent advance/retard curve for applications where a broad range of the engine’s RPM is being used, such as in motocross.
Are they fuck'n stupid? :bonk:
What part of a small bore (yes to include a CR85!!) uses a "broad range of RPM"

Roostius...umm...no haven't looked at my PMs in forever, will do that

PVL's have been around a long time and have a pretty good track record in replacing points ignitions in vintage bikes with electronic. I replaced the fried motoplat (electronic, not points) in my 490 maico with one and it works well. the pvl flywheel was about half the weight and smaller diameter than the stock one which I thought would ruin the engines normal characteristics but I actually like it fine, revs faster. It was an easy install. I would not use one for a cr500 though as a used stock one would be cheaper and probably better.
