Lighting/charge coils

Post by other »

G'day fellow CR5 maniacs . . . . newbie in Western Australia with plans to
turn my ugly steel frame 1990 CR into a beautiful shiny alloy framed, "road legal" (ish) toy . . . .
Gonna be using a CRF450X base, and want a little advice on the best stator lighting coil/charge coil to use. I want to retain the battery (for bullshit indicators, parklight etc, and future experimentation with electric start. . . . ), so obviously regulater/rectifier is needed for DC conversion, switchgear etc. is all no problem. Just the basic stator charge coil. Am I better off doing away with the current ignition stator and fitting a replacement digital system complete ? (my bike is already a really easy starter , as CR5's go . . .), what about extra flywheel weights ? What about the 'piggy-back' systems that sit outboard of the existing flywheel ?
Any advice appreciated.
Most other aspects of the conversion fairly well covered, and I already have the 6061 T6 and bending dies in my possession . . . . Thanks Juddy !
