I hate to make examples of people's work, but I can't resist.....

Most of the time, blokes do pretty good jobs of their own conversions. I've written quite often that I've been more impressed by many individuals jobs than those out there doing it for money.

But here' one that scared me:

The Y / Down tube junction was pretty nasty as well, but the picture was not that good - I could find it but this cradle extension should speak for itself.

I expressed my genuine concern for his safety, without calling it shit or anything emotive, only for him to fire back the usual, petulant "what would you know?" - I informed him & had no further postings to me from him.

I can see how blokes can get fired up to 'do it now', whilst in the work shop, and many of the welders they use are just that , welders, with no design / engineering experience, or the owner won't listen to their concerns, or they Have no concerns/interest in what they are doing, so dodgyness is done.

With the one Gene posted, just by making that down tube reinforcement plate into a inverted Y, going down to the 2 uprights of the cradle would make it a hell of a lot safer - surely whoever thought of the square plate could have thought of that.

As for the sections instead of a curve, well needs must, as they say, but I don't think I saw any inserts/rose welds or outer bracing.

I hope the fellow (both) enjoys his bike and doesn't get hurt.

what makes me laugh it may take a little more time to do a good job it takes less time to replace the frame rails than to work out all them joins pay someone to do it properly tiger and survive your next ride

It looked like at first he intended to use the Y but then came up with the horror that Bob posted. Maybe the dude smoking the cigarette talked him into a "better" way of doing it?

I'm all for being a do-it-yourselfer, but you shouldn't use half ass skills on something that could go 100mph and could jump over a house. I would't give advice other than that. Sent it to a pro welder/fabricator for the design change.
