551 posts, and your still thinking about doing a 500 conversion while dumping alot of cash into the 250????

lmao, 500's around here are few and far between. The plan is to find a 500 this winter, rebuild it next summer, and stuff it in next winter, provided i keep working...just a matter of waiting for the right deal on a cr5 to come along...believe me, i looked before i rebuilt the 250. everything was 1800+ :/

I just got an 89 motor off from desertCR for $500 on this forum, nobody else wanted it......

U got more than that into that small bore.

I have learned quite a bit in all this. The money doesnt really matter, i can off this motor in an instant. Im just waiting for the right deal to come along. even though ive been riding my whole life, this is my first "fast" bike that is my size, and i only have a season and a half on it. Been riding small, slow crap forever.

Still learning how to safely use the power, i eat shit at least once every time i go out lmao. funny thing is, its usually because i am entering a berm too slow that i fall haha.

yep, and i'd still need the CDI, carb etc. etc. i sure as fuck dont want to rejet the thing, ever since i toasted a motor a few years ago. jetted rich to where it blubbered on top, backed it off 1 jet to clear it up, and the stupid thing locked up from overheating.......

I would like to get a whole bike, and make sure everything is kosher before transplanting it into my frame.

the motor came with the extra stuff to make it run. Hey, as long as you are having fun it don't matter much. I just seem to have a bunch more fun on the 500.

runs the same as she did before she blew. only difference is that slight knock from the rod at low RPM is a lot quieter than before, but its still audible, at least to me. when it starts getting louder, i guess its time to rebuild lol.

10 hours into the rebuild and shes still running strong!

just have to keep an eye on that coolant leak. got the bike back together and some ass clown pried the cases apart before me. i squished some JB weld into the pinhole sized leak (a drip every 5-10 seconds) after i got it dried out, and so problems yet.

i mean, hell. my cheap ass bought a damn case splitter, why does people feel the need to use screwdrivers to pry?

No need for screwdrivers when you can tap the end of the shafts with a lump of wood, not high tech but it works with no damage. :wink:

If the bearings fit that loose in their bores.... the cases are done.

You need a puller, if all is well.....

When I said to use a lump of wood, I was refering to splitting the cases.
I used that method back in 1985 and I am very sure I did not even hit the crank at any stage, just the main shaft and counter shaft to get the cases to part, no big hits either.

This was done only to get the cases to part company, instead of the IDIOT idea of trying to put screwdrivers between the 2 cases, which damages the sealing surface of the cases.

I am damn sure when I got the cases apart that all the bearings were still where they belonged.

The idea of the wood was to break the seal of the gasket, nothing else.

This was done in 1985 so I could be completely wrong or not. :roll:
