was removing my old drive sprocket today and while i was there i gave the sprocket a turn in neutral to feel how my bearings were holding out.
the drive shaft turns freely for about 2 full turns then it starts to feel grainy like a bearing is rough. but when i turn it through the same spot on its way back, the feeling is gone until i do another rotation or two and it comes back. the roughness appears to never be in the same spot. im wondering if it may be a bearing spinning in the case (because ive just put in new gbox bearings and my bike has alot of fine alloy dust through it every 3 hours of riding). its only noticable when i turn the sprocket a full turn over 3 seconds.( if i spin it fast, you can hardly feel it).before i rebuilt the bike it had the dirty gbox oil problem and i didnt notice any bearing spin marks on the cases then.
is this just normal for gboxes or do i have a terminal problem on my hands?
it runs well, shifts good but my oil gets particlised after 3 hours of riding with a fine alloy dust,no big pieces.(my magnetic plug picks up minimal steel).some people of other sites say it might be because i race it hard but i seem to be the only one with bad oil after 3 hours. im waiting for my new clutch hub and plates to arrive cos i thought it might of been from that.but now im not sure.
any advice would be appreciated
