My first af500

Post by boris »

G'day guys, can I say that I would never have attempted this without this site.Gotta say started out with cr500 rider.com(yawn) Decided to do a gen 1.
Already wish I bought a gen3.See what happens.Got the ball rolling with Shanmans plans But does anyone know an Aussie who does gen1 kits already? It's bullshit how much a machiner wants to draw them again in millimeters.Like $60 ausd for the head stay++.Other option is does anyone in oz want a gen1 kit?Get my mint 97 on Monday ye har!

If you want a Gen3, just get it before you start work on the Gen1.

Otherwise you will regret spending the money on the Gen1 instead of doing the Gen3.

Either way, good luck on your build.

Good luck with it mate.Is it costing 60 bucks to fab the headstay or redraw it in metric ? Just offer a tradie in Perth a carton to do it for you ! Carton buys a lot of things, especially now its beer drinking weather lol.How much ya paying for the gen 1 ? I have a mate that has a 98 he will sell to me for $500. Apparently the top end was removed then the bike left in the weather for a bit.So the engine is good for fork oil lol ! Id say the rest of the bike may be a tad rough too.

Gotta put some pic on site.Payed $2500 Its fuckin mint condition.Just got a price back from a guy $95 to make the head stay.Still waiting to hear back from the engineer.Reckon about another $200 probably. One offs not real cheap. No one wants a gen1 kit any more no point making more than one.Got a 80hp methanol engine will probably go in the gen1 eventually for sand drags. :D :D

Hey Boris,if ya dont mind send me a PM when you get this methanol engine running in the sand drags.Wouldnt mind a look.

I cant see why a bent alloy plate or fabricated plate wouldnt work ( Im a boily),so long as there is some support it doesnt need to be 'billet'.Billet is often just wankpack material lol.

2 easy / expensive choices are 1)buy a brand new one from Service Honda. 2)look on the www.tradingpost.com and buy a complete bike and rape it for the engine, exhaust, carb and electrics.

Or you could just wait around for something to turn up, GOOD LUCK!

My methanol engine is out of a formula 500 you know those little sprint cars without wings?Guy bought one raced it for a year then put a Yami r6 engine in.I got one running engine and another in pieces, tons of jets and a massive pipe.A guy I know is extending a cr500 swingarm 4 me by 250mm.Thats going dirt dragin and my engine out of my 500 going in the AF.If you buy a methanol engine this way ask if they have the kickstarter and assembly cause they take it out and bump start them.About $700 from Honda for new bits I got caught out.

Bent should be fine cr500 is only two pieces bent. Why wouldn't it work.Same engine different frame.
