Back from the AOR

Post by Rosco-Peeko »

I made it back a few days ago from Kuwait. It was a good trip....we kicked some ass. We kept the planes in the air instead on the ground broke. I was 6 for 6 on inop APU's and one draw (bearings in the oil--safed it out)...not sure how many engine issues I had...I was busy but sustained a 100% first time fix...no repeats and they kept their on time take off.

I did have to make a trip to Mosul Iraq to fix a broke plane. I turned the aircraft in less than two hours. The crew was very paranoid about being there. They made haste getting the hell out of there after I greened the jet up with XOCL. There were 2 explosions while I was there and they find AK-47 slugs laying around on the flightline from the turds on the other side of the fence.

Wasn't scared in Iraq......had a job to do. Not trying to sound like a bad ass....I'm not. I am an engine troop....have to be able to focus 100% on what I am doing. My job is very unforgiving with mistakes.

We did have a bunch of shitheads that were arrested at Arifjan (10 min away in Kuwait). They were plotting to blow something up. We sprinkled some shit all over there plans and hauled em off. Then we had two bomb threats behind the dorm where I slept. I really get tired of these guys. Good guy or bad guy...you just want to put a boot in their face. The eyes tell all....nothing in there eyes leads me to believe that you can remotely trust them.

I did manage to run 371 + miles. I dropped a lot of weight. I stopped counting after 25 pounds. I am still running 5 miles a day 4-5 times a week. Matter of fact I have to go run now.

It is good to be back home. I am worn out!!! I have to get use to being around the family and letting things fall back into place.

I took my 17" MacBookPro with me. Freaking awesome!!!!!!! Ronny and I hit iChat a few times a week. It really made the trip easier for the both of us to be able to video chat. From what I saw...guys with skype and other messaging programs had a hell of a time.....iChat worked flawlessly.

I'll throw up a few pic's later....

The HAS we staged out of. We blew it up in the first gulf war:

The French sold these HAS's to the Kuwaiti's. They, the French said they are bomb proof. We proved that theory incorrect....maybe thats why they always get their asses kicked. So now the Kuwaiti's and sue'ing the French and the French are sue'ing us for blowing them up.

Another morning go. YOu can see the Aircraft Commander doing his walk around:

Getting ready to do a engine power run (push the throttles to the stops). I already had all 4 engines up and running as you can tell from the engine parameters being displayed on the MFD:

Loading up hummers:

How about some rockets, mortars and bullets? A load heading to Afghanistan:

Mr. Desert Fox, a curious fellow as he is sly. He was eating a Dove that he caught.

Big Red coming up for another day. The sun here is no joke. Drink monsters, gatorade or whatever and not enough water. Plan making a trip to the hospital. You will get dehydrated so fast over here. Water is all you need and lots of it.

Big Red creeping up. "Moose 62, 30 minutes out, Alpha 1." Waiting for our plane to hit the deck:

Loading up an MRAP. These things weight 40K with all the armor and are made by International.

It really sucks that not all the guys make it back alive. :(

It is a bonus for everyone that does make it back OK.

Well I saw stranger things over there.....Pakastani's and Indians trying to cook american.....breakfast, lunch and dinner should come with a free roll of TP. When you get into it, all that matters is water, food, looking out for your wingman and getting the planes in the air. The country smells like SHIT and sand. Git er done and come home.....short and sweet.

I have a lot more pics......like over 200 but can only post certain ones. Oh yeah, BTW...HAS stands for Hardened Aircraft Shelter. Sorry for the use of acronyms.
