the 95 thru 97 linkage bikes were pretty good except for the fork. the zokes were not my favorite. if I still had one I would put a newer fork on it. the 96 360 was a good motor, when they went to 380 I thought they went backwards with the motor. the PDS suspension that started in 97 with the 200 Jackpiner anniversary model although ok for offroad was not that good until 2008.

one good thing about the older mxc and exc, they both came stock with 130w lighting coils. take fuel tank off, plug light in, put fuel tank back on, let there be light

did you read the 440 test on page 5 ? 440 used the same fork as the 550. decoster did a 500 shoutout and the 550 had the best fork. . my '96 forks feel mushy, but someone may have altered them previously, also i got looking and they arent the same as '95 boingers, the axle is in a different location i think.yota wrote:the 95 thru 97 linkage bikes were pretty good except for the fork. the zokes were not my favorite. if I still had one I would put a newer fork on it. the 96 360 was a good motor, when they went to 380 I thought they went backwards with the motor. the PDS suspension that started in 97 with the 200 Jackpiner anniversary model although ok for offroad was not that good until 2008.

base gasket was fubar on the 440 so i took it apart to have a peek (it started to suck in around the transfer area). piston and nikisil look great so im slapping it all back together tomorow with just a new gasket .....remember the motor is going on its 15th year of service . plated cylinders are the shizznit . evidently if you keep enough oil going through the cylinder the topend could last indefinatly. all in all im pretty impressed. anyways on with the story, i figured out how ktm was getting mad topend power from the 440, the exhaust measured 202*. 440 exhaust is actually bigger than 550 by about 1/16". its a good size hole for only 70mm stroke. my cr500 with drag port is roughly about 200* so that gives you a idea what ktm was thinking when they built the 440.
for some reason they added holes

well i heard some good news tonight from my freind. he beat me to the punch and has succesfully finished transplanting a honda rod into a ktm. he said the bike is running good and everything is working awesome so far. also said the new rod didnt add any extra vibration. . im pretty excited considering this was nothing more than a idea on paper a few months ago.
WOW! I hope all this works out really well for both of you.
It doesn't matter who does it first, as long as it works great.

It only took a couple of blokes stuffing around with alloy frames and CR500 engines, we all know what happened next.
This will be the same sort of thing, once the word gets out it can be done and its not that difficult.
It will help out owners of older KTMs.
Probably the best part is it will help ensure Honda will keep producing parts for the CR500 engine.
The more stuff they sell, the less likely they are to stop production completely.
I HOPE!

this is taking alot longer than expected, just isnt enough hours in the day. had to take everything apart and do the usual inspection then put it all back together. got the motor back together and in the frame finally after waiting for a gasket and tool. i forgot to mark the stator when i pulled it off so i had to re-time the damn thing, wasnt that hard but caused some extra delays. ignition, carb, and rads are back on, got all the hoses hooked up except one. got a few more odds and ends to do. cant wait to turn this sucker loose it should be a screamer . i got a radvalve for it too but it needs some new reeds so i put the stockers back in for now.
I see you also have a hillclimb bike, is that a must have to be a member here.
KTM seems to be coming along nicely.

once a katoomer always a katoomer, he'll be selling the hondas now
That 440 porting is sick as hell, with the additional exhaust ports, drilled additional upper boost ports, look at the size of the lower boost ports! do you have any pics of the transfers?

Thats exactly the kinda plastics i'm talking about. theres atleast 6 sets of used plastics + some new ones, both orange+black sets sitting in the farm shop that likely wont get used. Idoit cuz burnt like 10 sets of 250f plastics a few weeks back.
