having a little trouble with the pipe. got it from Mike with my build but it had a service honda label. first the rubber front hanger broke. I drilled it and put a bolt thru it and the bolt broke next ride. when I took the pipe off today to get the top end off and ready to ship I noticed the broken weld.

will be trying the maico/PJ combo tomorrow, runs great in my garage (: no where to run it out near my house.

the broken pipe weld is at the rear. the broken rubber isolated hanger is at the front.

Ha HA

I broken my rear mount twice so far and front mount once so far I still trying find a mounting system that will last I using a Z angle mount for the front pipe mount made out of 304 Stainless Steel 1/4 hard .125 see how long this last the one before was a Z angle made out on 301 SS .071 1/4 hard lasted about 10 hours.
The stock rear mount I broke with 2.5 hours on it where it wellded to the pipe it self both side of the weld sheared off completly.

Today first attemp on the rear mount with the one I fabed up mounting system had about 6 hours on it before it also broke I need to find a better way to get this to work I was using a Band clamp mild steel about .050 to a rubber mount to the frame it cracked at the band clamp needs to be replaced I make a thicker mount at work this comming week on the waterjet. I mite try use tool steel this time around.

Is this common to brake the mounts on these conversions.
Are they both the same brand of pipe, would a stock pipe be a bad choice.
Do these same pipes break mounts on steelies as well. :?
Is it the construction of the pipes causing this or something else.

I hevent broken a pipe mount since I rode a 125 like 6 years ago. if mounted wihout and tension placed on the mount they should last a good long time.

Preload

Post by honda02 »

My first mounts had some pr load on them I think thats why they broke My 2nd rear mount I think I had the band Strap tourqe down to tight thats why it broke in half.

The front mount was under preload and to thin metal.

I have to say I just love this bike, may be the most fun I've ever had on 2 wheels. The more I ride it the better I like it. haven't been on my 08 KTM 200 since I got this bike together. At first I wasn't that impressed with the turning, I had way too stiff a rear spring (5.2). Once I got the right rear spring (.48) got to the right sag numbers and a got an MX Tech revalve and the gearing right (14/50) it handles fantastic. Took me about 5 or 6 rides to get used to the power, it hurt me twice early on but now its just a pussy cat. a big monster pussy cat.
