The KTM 300 is probably the best do it all bike ever made but it can run out of power quick compared to a good running 500.

I disagree with AJ on the CRF 450 CRF 250 thing. A gen 4 450 and 250 are practicly the same chasses and for sand a GEN 3 450 is superior to both.

as a do-everything-well platform, I think the list is as short as two....The KTM 300 and a CR500AF....simple as that. The good news is that both will be roosting long after many a 250F/450F have donated their chassis to more worthy power plants. 450's in particular have come a long, long way though.

I have always wondered if a CR250R with a 330 kit would be better than the KTM though........

What is the point of all this information stored here if no one reads it.
The more times you read something the more chance of it remaining fresh in your mind.
I read everything that is useful to me or funny.
I find these threads again while I am doing research, I was not a registered member when they were new and its funny looking back at it.
Did anyone notice the Title of this thread, also did anyone notice that it was the only time that an 09 was even mentioned :?:

I'm trying to finnish a team trubble 02 125 to finnish the last events in the worcs season. One is in Idaho the other in Glen Helen. I'm currently running second on a ktm 505 and husaberg 550. There are two races this next week in washington (trees) I suck at trees, being in the southwest I like the faster courses. I started the year on a 08 ktm250sx and turned it right in to a 300sx with pro reklus, head work done by dicks racing. Standing in line to signe up Bobby Bonds was standing next to me, I asked his opion of the 300 he raced in 06. He words were it was down on power, and he couldn't stay with the 450 because of it. As I walked away I was thinking to my self that maybe if he lost about 75lbs it would. Well he lost the weight and bam he won the next year overall. After racing a 300 with sxs hard parts suspension, pro rekluse it was clear we need more just like Bobby said. Not horse power but torg. Enter the 02 125 #012 frame [because in racing its about turning] 86 motor thats been balanced by surf and turf {70 minutes at race pace], 41 mill carb[ over rev I hope],pro rekluse, stock porting, suspension by RG3 not sure on that one. Never have rode one but on paper it should hold it's own and in some cases be better for me with my style of riding. When I see chuck Sun {he races the worcs] I'm going to have him ride it and give me honest view of it compared to the kx500af he rode at Glen helen during the outdoor national between motos . Great sight with great infoe, before it's raced I'll put some pictures up.

When you see Chuck Sun, Tell him I said hello! He wont remember me but when I was kid, ("78-79") era" he and his mechanic worked on my RM80 at Smith Rd Raceway in Medina Ohio for me. He was on a big black Husky and I remember him just railing with that thing. Never forgot his generosity toward me. He made a huge impression on me that Sunday afternoon.
By the way...Mines #09.

I'm running boysen reeds and pro circuit pipe. Before I decieded to do this project I bought a clean 86 put 14-48 grearing on it and took it to the track. Other than the ergos being from another world the bike the was as fast as any of the guys 450 I normally ride with. I could see and compare corner speed, mostly exicting the corner. So I was going to buy a 500af, test rode it, very short ride but I didn't like the vibs it had and it signed off real soon, the bottom in was hugh though. It was a 97 in a 450X frame. It had way more bottom than my 86. Riding a ktm505 it has alot more bottom and mid than a 450xc, but over a long race its more taxing and you use alot more energy, hints the over rev. Im thinking I can ride the first 20 mintes on the pipe and then start riding it off the bottm to mid. This is all speculation of course since the only 500 I'v had more than 20 minutes of track time is my 86 steely. Chuck is still the same nice guy as you remebered, he looks like he 35 years old.
