$1,500. i didnt want to pay over $1,200 but i didnt really have any bargaining chips on my side, so it was either buy it right then or walk away. i did get a box of stuff with it: bunch of gaskets, brandnew pipe gaurd, brandnew radiator hoses for the whole system, and a extra fmf pipe but its pretty beat up. and it does have a couple upgrade parts: pwk, boyesen radvalve and fmf system, so thats $600 i wont have to fork out.
the other 550 i payed $800. so i got 2 machines for $2,300. im still working the honda rod on the other motor.

he wants to use it for MX ? good luck with that. the suspension is too mushy and the power hits like a sledge hammer when it goes to the powerband. i suppose if you reworked the boingers and rode with the tranny 2 gears higher you might be alright. plus i think the 550 was about 10 lbs heavier than a CR.Roostius_Maximus wrote:nice bike, the lil cuz is hunting for one since the weekend, seeing as how he'd break contract on a honda 500

hahaha, not for mx , i agree she'd be a tank. He wants to go in the 600cc class at the hillclimb and KTM wont let him ride a 500 honda with ktm plastics (we asked) so we'd need a 550ktm to build a climber arround100hp honda wrote:he wants to use it for MX ? good luck with that. the suspension is too mushy and the power hits like a sledge hammer when it goes to the powerband. i suppose if you reworked the boingers and rode with the tranny 2 gears higher you might be alright. plus i think the 550 was about 10 lbs heavier than a CR.Roostius_Maximus wrote:nice bike, the lil cuz is hunting for one since the weekend, seeing as how he'd break contract on a honda 500

theres 2 ktm's in this video about half way through (they have left side pipe) and im pretty sure theyre 550, they appear to run pretty good.

danny wake up. your day dreaming again . i like how you think, but for me its not feasable and honestly i dont know if its even possible but maybe it is. i see what your getting at, the CR is a better overall platform but honestly the only "major" drawback i see with the ktm is the rod, (theres a few minor drawbacks however). actually the ktm rod will get the job done, but i think the honda rod will add a large amount of strength and longevity.dannygraves wrote:hm, this sounds like it could be MADE to fit100hp honda wrote:i checked the studs a while back and it seems like length wise they are off by quit a bit. width wise i think theyre fairly close. i didnt investigate any firther than that.dannygraves wrote:dude, that thing sounds wicked! you sure there isn't a way to fit that jug on a cr?

Seriously. You guys need to show more videos like that.
Its 3am here. I am half corked and I need to see more hill climb videos in your posts like that one. That was just insane to watch. I watched it 2 times back to back. I wish we had hill climbs here where I live.
We have the hills for it here.
Mind you, people would probley run their sleds up the hill instead because it has a longer track out the back with more HP even in the dirt they would try it. lol I know I would

danny ill get you some pictures of both cylinders so you can see what the hurdles will be. there was a guy selling a 550 cylinder/head for $150, if you still want to give it a whirl i can contact him and see if he still has it.
i did see a 550 jug on a LT500, seems like they said it was a fair amount of work to make it fit. i guess anything is possible if you have the tools and patience.

yeah, I was just thinking it would be cool to have an a/f, then put a katoom jug on it, that porting looks much more agressive and I would imagine it would rev quite a bit better. Would make a f-ing killer dunes bike!

theres something that i noticed today, that i hadnt noticed before. the 550 stud holes are not sqaure, the left side measures alot shorter than the right side. the CR stud holes are nearly sqaure. the outside sleeve diameters are real close though. let me know if you wan to do it, i can hook you up with cylinder and head.

Danny who do you know with a CNC mill.
All you need to do is machine up a couple of billet CR500 cases with the stud placement to suit the KTM550 JUG.
Hey this is not as hard as I first thought, just fairly expensive I guess.
Hey 100hp thats how to do it F@#K the KTM bottem end just graphed the cylinder onto the Honda bottem end and you will already have the Honda rod.
Only thing is, is the stroke of the KTM550 the same or longer than the CR500.
If it is not you will lose some of the 550 capacity, which = bummer.
100hp sus this out, this looks like a plan.
That is until someone KILLS IT!
100hp can you post up the bore and stroke dimensions please of the KTM550.
Have you tried putting the KTM crank in the CR500 cases, if that is a NO GO make a billet crank.
This is not impossible, just time consuming and some sort of expense with a bit of nutting out.
GO FOR IT, it will bit one WICKED bike.
DO IT! before Danny beats you.

have a look at this. a monumental feat of engineering if i do say so myself. some guy asks: so does the 550 cylinder fit on the suzuki 500 bottom end without any trouble ? the other guy answers: no, there is more putty and welding in that motor than a michigan winter car that is 30 years old . danny thinks its a matter of bolting some parts together and go ride tomorrow
heres some details

na, I was just thinking weld in stock stud holes and weld in any areas that need to be filled, then dirll and tap in new stud holes. the intake angle looks like a pita though.

you have the right idea. they made it fit on the suzuki, so it might could be done on the honda in a similar way. but its a project i have no desire to pursue, although it would be badassdannygraves wrote:na, I was just thinking weld in stock stud holes and weld in any areas that need to be filled, then dirll and tap in new stud holes. the intake angle looks like a pita though.
