Is this a CR500 CDI?

Post by robertg »

This came on a 93 engine that I bought. The wire from the stator splits, and the CDI looks small. It looks different than the 97 ignition that I had.

I looked at an online parts diagram from bikes from the late 80's and it looks like there were some change-ups. Most of them have pictures of three different ignition systems. What year did they change to a plastic cdi box?

im thinking you might have a 85 or 86 setup. im not sure why someone would put that on a 93 though.

I took off my 00 CR250 ignition and put this one on a couple of days ago. I can't feel a power difference but I had to turn my idle down with this ignition. It still starts first kick, if you kick it right.

I finally found out what it's from. It's a HRC ignition like this one on eBay.

It has a 30w lighting coil. Is that enough for a decent headlight?

i dont think that would power much. i think the digital cr250 ignition can run lights good. youll need 75-100w at least
do it!... cos if you dont, youll spend the rest of your life thinking about it anyway!
