mysterious coolant leak??

Post by LAYNFRM »

so i finished my AF motard build, and it seems to be losing a hint of coolant on rides. if i make the short ride to work, then it doesn't make much of a difference, but if i ride 100-200 miles in a day, then about 3-4 ounces will be gone. it's just enough to where the fins are visible when i take the cap off to check the level. i have a temp strip on the radiator, and it's not getting over 200 at any point in time (running water + water wetter), and it's not boiling out at any point. i've checked the nuts on the head and they are still tight, and it doesn't leak from there, or any of the hoses. the bike seems to run fine, and isn't smoking any differently than any other 2 stroke i've ever owned.

anyone have any kind of idea where this coolant is disappearing to?

Put a temp catch bottle on the overflow tube. That's my bet where it is going.

light it up with the rad cap off and see if its making bubbles, popped head gasket could be pressuring up your cooling system and pumping it out the overflow, doesnt always leak back into the cylinder to cause smoke.
