Carb Question, But PW50 related

Post by Roostius_Maximus »

k, so its WAY off the 500, but the lil guys pw50 needs some work.

Anybody here know about removing the oil pump and just runing premix?
I did it and was concerned about it beeing lean, then stupidly let a local dude convince me to try a bigger jet that obviously made it blubber and run like crap.
Its an '85, the white and red one, its got a bore+piston with maybee 10 minutes run time
The carb was siezed up in the choke area and kinda messed it up, but eventually got it free and i think its just blocked off now.

I've got 2 BW80's Run premix thru both. Disabled oil pump no problems. They are almost exactly the same motors.

probably better to use premix , the route on the oil line is piss poor , most ones i have looked at over do the premix and cakes up the pipe ... they are headache to get at to bleed if u run low on oil and get air in there .

I am not sure about the PW50 but some of the old injector 2 strokes inject oil directly into the main bearings as well. These engine cases are not designed to get lube to the bearings from the normal fuel charge.

Also the yamahas have a very low failure rate on the injector pumps.

this one only has a line into the fuel bowl, the pump was piled up inside from grit in the tank. I'm thinking i've got it solved, just havent turned a wrench on it, he's liking the z50 right now anyways

on my pw80, it came w/o the oil pump. but I always eliminate them. I would put the jetting back to stock and dial it in from there. these things were jetted like crap from the factory.

my PW50 mods:

"Holeshot" clutch springs from peeweecycle.com

boyesen reeds (go one size smaller than stock on the main jet)

and... pull the inner "tube" out of the silencer and cut the little torpedo off the inlet end. Also drill four 1/4 inch holes in that inner piece. Noise level increases only a tiny bit and the bike breathes better.

Restrictors are out, stock reed, no silencer and a slightly larger mainjet, but I need to look at the clutch soon.

Anybody have an extra carb for sale?

Ive seen some PW50's that really haul ass.... All of them had a ring and pinion out of a QT50 scooter in them.

Lower ratio ( higher numerically) really makes the PW pull hard...

The 60cc "Y-Zinger" stuff bolts right on too.....
