Yeah, kinda sucks as both the cases were new (with new bearings from SH). I am pretty sure the bearing was seated, but you never know. That is why I purchased them "loaded", so I didn't have to deal with it.
I am going to pick up another new case half (again). Keep my original cases in the box on the shelf.

No flaming arrow yet, just a list of guesses.97af wrote:What do you think?4Z wrote:I don't know what what caused it, have a hypothesis.
-Counter shaft clearance at the bearings was a little on the tight side. Not too tight as I assembled it without the crank and checked operation, then again with the final assembly, all was well. The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is to use plastiguage (sp) on the end washers to check for clearance.
-Frame relaxed and bound on the motor. It didn't just slide in. I had to coax it in with through drilling the mount holes and removing material on the inside of the two forward mounts. Just enough to get the motor in there. I need to massage the frame more so that it is a slip fit, that is the only thing I can do that I should have done the first time it went in.
-Worn trans components? (bearings and cases were all new) I only gave visual inspection, didn't get the mic out.
-Poor casting out of the box.
-Too much POWAA!
I am going to have the motor split today, internal investigations may reveal more.

Well, for one thing. That TUSK case spreader and crank puller set up is slick. No hot/cold action, no propane/butane needed. Sure is nice having the right tools..
Motor just went back together. UPS dropped off the goods at 10am.
Looks like the darn holiday festival is going to get in the way. Maybe stuff the motor after my Anch, AK trip next week.
