hi all, been away for awhile. come back to see some bitching, you lot need to go riding or get a root. too much tension.
anyway i've decided to do away with my heap of shit 06tmracing300en. i've decided to go ahead and get a gen 3 250.
for the money i could buy a relativly new bike for the conversion.
is this money well spent or should i just buy an early model gen 3. obviously condition would have lots to do with, my thinking is buy cheap and build the bike the way i like with the left over money, or spend the money on a smick gen3 250. are the differences in models pretty much the same?
not worried about actual year model. my thinking is if i've got 3 grand left over i can buy a steering damper, suspension revalve for desert and a general tidy up of an older model to suit my needs
on the flip side i could buy a newer model but have less money to spend on luxury items and have to make do. this could also be a pain in the arse especially if i need to replace bearings, seals ect.
i'm thinking buy the best condition for the price regardless of year model.
also i'm open to suggestion if any of you guys believe maybe a different donor bike of a different generation may be a better option.
i have about $6000 to spend on a chassis, bear in mind i'm from australia and the prices are higher than that of the US.
PS stop picking on each other and go throw a leg over the missus or that 500. you all need rooting and a smack in the back of the head
gen 3 which one?
gen 3 which one?
13 isnt unlucky i just keep falling off

yep. might want to factor into the price some new bearings and seals, they might be good but they might not. maybe new chain and tires if theyre worn out.coley13 wrote: i'm thinking buy the best condition for the price regardless of year model.

i wouldnt use the term frozen. there was some changes even after '03 and a few changes after '04. heres a few of them: over all bike length, castor angle, trail length, foot peg height, carb, ignition, swingarm, front fender and number plate, tripple clamps, chain guide, and i think the subframe and airbox may of had slight differences. i believe the pipe and crankcases have slight changes also. im thinking the crankcases change was internal bolt pattern or something like that maybe, possibly different bearings but i cant be sure. in a sense they are kind of the same bike because all the parts will most likely interchange between the years and some changes were pretty minor, but obviously they arent exactly the same bikesAlisoBob wrote:I believe the CR250 was "Frozen" in 2003..... so any '03 to '07 will all be the same bike.... Much like the 97' to '01 CR500 series.
Good having you back Coley....
