Did I get ripped Off Trany Issue
Did I get ripped Off Trany Issue
My trany in my 1995 CR500 was trashed I found a guy that been building them for a while he sold me a trany out of a 1986 CR500 he told me it has a wider ratio trans than the one I have so I purchased it from him.
He also told me he sending a Kit to install it in my 1995 cases including a new Counter shaft sprocket he said my clucth basket will work and so on.
Is this true or I just lost $159.00 for thoses parts all gears and shafts shifter forks and shifter drum.
The trans looked almost new did I just get ripped off or will this 1986 trans work in my 1995 cases with my 1995 clucth.

if you got the sprocket, and the bearing for the output shaft then it'll all fit fine, 86+95 have the same ratio tho

I was going to redo my 1995 trany but the guy thats doing my motor work told me I mite be better off finding a used trany instead it cost $159.00 including shipping thats why I went this route.
After rebuilding the crank top end Ect this AF is turnning into a money pit project I hope it will be well worth all the headachs.

Just a side note but replacing all the gears costs about 550$.
Don't ask me how I know

you might have issues with the output shaft bearing, seal, collar, etc. but you should be able to use your '95 counter shaft and just put all the gears from the '86 on it. the mainshaft will be just fine and work with a newer clutch no problem.

84-87+93-'01 were the same wide ratio, '88-'92 were close ratio.
'86 and '87 have the same counter shaft and sprocket setup, '85 and '84 have unique clutch and sprocket setups and '88+ all had the same shafts and sprockets, just different 4th and 5th gears.
the '86 and '87 countershaft was a different diameter and had fewer splines. the diameter is the big problem since the bearing is different, the seal is different, the seal collar and seal behind the collar are different. I can't remember right now, but I don't think the O.D. of the c/s bearing and seal were the same, which would mean you cannot you use that '86 counter shaft

ok, so I just checked and on both the OD of the bearing is 54mm and the seal is 40mm, so you just need to order teh bearing, collar, seal and o-ring for and '86 an it will work.
