Cheng Shin 5.60 and 13t sprocket

Post by greylynn »

Well I got my Cheng Shin 5.60 18' tire and my 120 Maxxis desert IT in today. I was suprised at how big the Cheng Shin is! I have a 8 paddle turbo paddle that came with the bike but never ran it. I had just ordered a new 116 link chain then realized this might not work (clearance).

I also have a 06' TRX 450R and remembered that my stock sprocket was a 13. I put that on and got the tire on with it all the way back and the chain seems like it will be fine. How do you guys think she will run with that gearing and that tire? I would think since the tire is so huge (making taller gearing) and dropping one tooth in the front, that is probably like going up 2-3 in the rear?

I have never taken the bike to the dunes before so I don't know what to expect. Here is a pic.

I hate the cheng-shin-ching-wan-ching tire. it has no virticle ribs which hurts turning stability and although the carcas is huge the pucks are small. I run the 8 puck turbo paddles all damn day. they sink, then grab, hook up like a mother, corner excellent and kick up some hard core roost. I'd say put your 14 back on and run the turbo paddle. a 13t in the dunes will suck ass you'll be in 5th all the freaken time hunting for a 6th.
the tire that I will get next in the scat trak 10 puck with the huge virticle rib, hooks up well and provides great freaken cornering.

I just tried adding another link and then the chain is way to slack......Looks like I'm running 13/39 with the 5.60. See how it goes. I'm starting to think maybe I shold have just tried the turbo paddle!

SKat track hooker or viper 12 is the only way to roll on a stockish 500.

THOSE are good tires they keep you on the sand not in the sand but you may need to add some links to get it pulled all the way back and take off your mud flap as the tire grows the faster you spin it . you should run a shock sock in the sand so you dont pit up the shock shaft.

as for the tire I like best in the sand -skak trac 10 paddle cant remenber what type but its the molded one with the rib for a stock bike

12 viper for a modded bike

16 viper for a highly modded on No2

dont run a 13 front you wont like it you can run a loose chain in the sand just how loose is it when you are setting on the bike and reach down and pull up on the rear wheel?? because thats where your supension will probably be when riding the dunes .

better to loose that to tight . make sure you are running a case saver & chain guide

with 14/48,49,50 you can add 2 extra links (if i remeber correct its 116 links but i would have to double check to be sure) and the axle sits almost all the way back and be perfect, assuming you have a good chain that wont stretch 5 inches. im not sure i understand the thinking behind a 13t ?

I ran 14/48 and it worked perfect with the stock 116 link chain. That was the only way I could get it to work with the 14t. Anyway I thought it ran like a monster at Dumont! plenty of paddle but not over paddled I would guess I was going about 60 something miles an hour up Banshee hill. I found it easy to dune because no matter what angle you are at hit the throttle and you will straighten right up......

14/48 is good dumont gearing, nice and tall, but not too tall to launch in 2nd.

14/48 worked good for me in the dunes. 5th gear was useless on the big hills but 4th was perfect and had a final ratio of 60mph tire speed
