Best tires I've ever had. They last incredibly long. I agree about the front wanting to come out a bit on some terrain though. If you adjust your riding style a bit, there's really nothing these tires wont take you through.

I absolutely love the Maxxis SI up front. I'll never use anything else !
M5B on the rear but I ride soft terrain, small dunes, monster sand hills, etc.
last bike i had i rode a Desert IT on the back and dunlop 756 race replica up front... Worked good.
I just ordered a IRC M1A porcupine tire and a desert IT for the 500 I figure ill wear the M1A a bit if i ride hard pack but that tire does great in the sand.

I agree, the rear is about the most durable I've found and works well.
The IT front is just horrible for me on any kind of hard pack. I don't think I'll ever buy one of those again. Never tried the SI before.
The only tire would run would be the IRC M5B in the rear and I would prefer to run the IRC Volcane enduro in the front. But my second choice would be the IRC Volcane enduro on the rear.
I run Kenda Millville Sticky frront and back 120/19...the tires are unreal they stick real well to rock almost like a trials tire. The tire is multi-directional which I like in the early season I run it soft and then in the summer months I run it intermediate, great tires all the way around.
I found out that the IT rear doesnt hook up for sh*t on slippery hard stuff, particularly an incline! But I guess thats the price you pay for having a long lasting tire..
The CR500 is an acquired taste. If you don't like it, acquire some taste...

yeah, dunlop 756 (i think) hooked up the best, but was all worn out after like 2 rides. the IT lasts a real long time and hooks up ok, a good balance for me.

Is a maxxicross IT the same as a desert IT? I have a maxxicross it that I got with a wheel set up off ebay. The guy claimed it had 2 rides so I bought it, he said the tread was excelent. I get it and there is like a 1/4 inch left. I emailed him about it asking if he did 2 baja 1000's with it. Things went downhill from there
Just to chime in here i have found the Dunlop 952 front and 756 rear is the best combo fro my AF.. yeah the back gets worn quickly in the desert but the grip is outstanding. However I ride MX 90% of the time so I am partial... if i was riding desert i would lean towards the harder IT tire, but always run either a 952 front regardless..
