Post by _joshua_ »

What would you think of putting a Maico 685 in a honda Alu frame?

I know some of you really get your rocks off on this horsepower thing. And I love power as much as the next 500 rider, but I think a standard 500 already has more than enough potential as is! I often think about reducing displacement more than I toss around the idea of trying to get more power :?

So what are you going to do with 80hp that you can't do with 55? I'm not sharpshooting you, I'm really just curious...

How does one effectively put all that power to the ground anyway? That's the key.

I prefer a 700cc in standard form without tuning, 80Bhp and a lot of torque than a 500cc ultra-tunned with 75/80HP and less torque...

im pretty sure somebody on the other site posted something a while back about one of the magazines doing a actual ride report of that big maico. they ran it in some kind of race from what i remeber. it vibed like hell and tached out at like 4,500 rpm, and probly reved slower than molasses in alaska winter :?

"Super Hunky" rode a 700cc Maico in an enduro and wrote about it here...

There are some other good articles about Maicos and how the company fell from its heights in the early 80s. In the vintage world, the 1981 Maico MC490 is still considered the dogs bollocks for the open twin shock class.

No, but I had a 500CR, and I loved the torque. And they say on some forum that Maico 620/685 has more torque, but in addition, is much softer than the CR500....

Do what you want to do mate. Why not do it ? Might not be as practical as some conversions, anyone else's cup of tea but whats wrong with being a bit original. Some people would say why the hell put a roadbike swingarm on a dirtbike like some guy here has done but everyone has different ideas and thats good to see other peoples ideas. It'd pretty cool BBQ/bench racing topic of conversation once you have it built  !
