Need some carb help

Post by TYSTYX »

This is actually about my son's CR85. Here's the problem....when slowing down to coast or to stop the bike and the clutch is pulled in the bike doesnt drop to idle speed right away. It stays slightly revved for about 15 seconds or so before the revs come down to idle. Any ideas ??

Sounds like an air leak, not the carb.

It's sucking air from somewhere it shouldn't.

i dont know about 15sec, but a carb out of adjustment (pilot/airscrew) will rev for a while after throttle is off. i been playing with jets in mine recently and it was doing same thing for atleast 5sec or maybe alittle longer. it stays revved up because its too lean somewhere, whether its airleak or lean pilot circuit. the float has nothing to do with the motor revving up, unless its letting the bowl run dry

It's not a jetting problem because its been running fine until a couple of weeks ago. Then earlier this week I was changing the oil and it was doing the same thing. I messed with his air screw but the problem never went away.

Whats a good way to check for air leaks ????

Spray some carb cleaner around the head gasket, base gasket and intake area. If the engine changes how it's running, (I think its supposed to start to die) you have a leak in that area.
