hillclimb swingarm length

Post by CR480R »

i am getting another 500('96) soon on trade.. I am planning to attend the Carnegie hillclimb in april with it. I dont have the money to buy extentions for the swingarm so I will have to make my own. Since this will likely be the only hillclimb event I attend in '09 (traveling costs $$ and my GF is pregnant) I am wanting to make them a fixed length for simplicy and ease of construction. Anybody have any suggestions on a good length for skips at carnegie?

It depends on the traction, what rear tire or paddle your running and which hill. You don't need as much length for qualifying, since the hill is a little easier. I would say anywhere between 68" and 74" from axle to axle would cover you for either hill. The shorter you run it, the better it will handle, but you want to be able to keep the front end down. Gotta find that sweet spot. :D Maybe Stoffers can give some info on what he runs on his Hondas for length.
