NEW YORK (Reuters) – Online dating service eHarmony has agreed to create a new website for gays and lesbians as part of a settlement with a gay man in New Jersey, the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General said on Wednesday.
The website will provide a dating service with "male seeking a male" or "female seeking a female" options, the Attorney General's office said in a statement.
eHarmony said it will launch the new same-sex dating site, named "Compatible Partners," by March 31.
The settlement was the result of a discrimination complaint filed by Eric McKinley against eHarmony in 2005, which will be dismissed under the settlement agreement.
eHarmony was founded in 2000 by evangelical Christian Dr. Neil Clark Warren and had ties with the influential religious conservative group Focus on the Family.
The New Jersey complaint is not the only legal action to be brought against eHarmony for failing to provide a same-sex option.
In March, lawyers in California brought a lawsuit against the company on behalf of San Francisco resident Linda Carlson, who was denied access to eHarmony because she is gay.
"We believe that this case is now essentially moot, and we're confident that we will prove that in court," eHarmony vice president Antone Johnson said in a statement about the California case.
Let Eric McKinley start his own gay website..... for the courts to FORCE eHarmony to do so is completly wrong.
If P/P ever tries that shit here, I'll drive to AZ to kick his ass ....personally!
Seems like an infringement of the fundamental property rights of the business owner. (A competitor called chemistry.com has been actively recruiting gays which is exactly how a free market should work i.e. they chose to cater to gays...)
eHarmony is a dating service founded by religious Christians who have done a lot of research on what makes heterosexual dating successful and likely to lead to marriage.
This means that a service for homosexuals is not only outside their area of expertise, but that it would be something they consider immoral.
To be clear, I am not a Christian nor I do not consider homosexuality to be immoral. I don't think there's any moral content at all in the sexual behavior of two consenting adults as long as nobody gets hurt and they're not breaking promises (such as marriage vows).
not many realize this but eharmony will refuse strait people if in the personality test they find you to have lose morals or just think you are not right for their internet community. How is being gay any different than a chick who likes to get the DVDA, or a dude who diddles children as far as being accepted to eharmonys website which as stated is based on successful relationships leading to marriage and starting a family?

The cocksuckers that want prop 8 to not pass said it's not about religion.
Not the case, It only takes 1 person to walk into a church and say I think I want to marry my pal here.
The Church says: Nope not here its against our moral beliefs.
Cocksucker says: I'll sue you and your church and you and your church will Pay me to get married here.
And the Church loses it status because of discrimination. (after lawsuit)
Forced by the government to perform acts that are against there Religion and moral beliefs.
And they say they won't push there way of life onto us MARRIED folks.
And guess what will happen the first time a gay person gets beaten or dead by someone they are matched up with at the site? Yep, they (or their family) will sue saying it's eharmony's fault even though as been said that type of matching is beyond their expertise.
I'm shacking my head, but thats a missed opertunety to make some serious coin . Ever see what they charge to sign up at gay&horny.com? Don't answer that.............
Where were all these homo's 20 years ago? How come in just the last 5 or 6 years they all start popping up? I think it is really just a fad or something. The eyebrow raiser for me, is when my daughter would come home from school while she was in the 8th grade, and say one of her friends was gay! Great you mean to tell me that she would rather go down on a girl as opposed to a guy? All at the ripe old age of 12. Thats great.
