Heading out again..
I leave soon for New Zealand. We stop in Hickam (Hawaii) and Pego Pego (Samoa) along the way. We will fly missions out of Christchurch New Zealand to Antarctica. Should be a fun trip! I'll post up pics after I get back in mid Nov.

A buddy of mine in the marine corps was trying to get into some program for lockheed martin down in antarctica. I should give him a call and see what happened with that now that I think about it...

Rob what do you do in the Air Force? Are you a loadmaster, flight engineer?? I guess by watching the video I'm assuming you do something on a C-17. Whatever it is you do, that's awsome you get to go to Antarctica!! Looks beautiful
That's one continent I can say for curtain I will never get a chance to go to...
Iggy you work on C-17s? There's a lot of military influence here isn't there!

I work on the engines and auxilary power units (baby jet engine). I am also run qualified. I can hop in the seat and fire up the motors. Nothing like running the inboard engines to max-power....shakes the hell out of the jet. Like a CR500 but in aircraft form.MICK wrote:Rob what do you do in the Air Force? I made my trip to the Ice yesterday!!! We left out of Christchurch New Zealand, flew for 5 hours to McMurdo Station Antarctica. It is very very dry down there. The snow and ice almost like dry ice. It was a chilly -34. The air was crisp and clean. I have a bunch of pics that I will post up when I get back home this weekend.
Suprisingly, there are some hot women down there! Although, some of the people we picked up to take back to NZ looked like the had been down there too long and gone utterly mad...hot or not. The tour for the scientists/everyone else ranges from 3 months to a year.
I have to handle to to Shackleton and Scott. To be there in the name of exploration and the race for the south pole in 1909-1912...those guys had it rough. Scott perished during a storm a few miles from Scott/McMurdo. I was there on a NICE day. Its a very hostile continent. The wind is a killer. We flew over fields of ice and icebergs for 40 minutes before we even saw land.
I took my US flag with me. I fold it in the ceremonial triangle and vacuum pack it to keep it clean. It been all over Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, Hungary, Iceland, Kyrgyzstan and now New Zealand and Antarctica. I will retire it to a purple heart wood case when I get home and only fly it on special occasions.
Oh yeah......New Zealand is bad ass! I could easily live down here. Its very beautiful and the people are cool. The beer is good too.
