So, I got coolant everywhere under my truck..... Right out the ol' weephole on the pump.

By coolant, I mean Dexcool.

:?

So, there was a reason I bought a truck under 100k miles after all.... The pump R&R is $600.... good thing the warranty is knocking it down to $100.

And Dexcool isnt going back in!

the dexcool left some deposits on my cr500 headgasket even though there is no leaking. I'm switching back to the green stuff. :? now what to do with the $40 worth of dexcool my dad left in my garage...

give it to a gm tech thats about the only place id use it...

dexcool turns to sludge when its ran low and overheated.. other than that its just like regular coolant.. dexcool is probably NOT the cause of your waterpump failing... However replacing it would be the smart thing :D

dexcool caused failed intake manifold gaskets on my '98 5.7 vortec because it ate up the plastic they made the gaskets out of. lost all its coolant in less than a minute between stephanie and gibson on the 215 :shock:

$600 smackers to R&R a DM pump. Shit...I wish I could get that from the ones I've done.
The last one I did took 3 hours. Fuckin balancer has to come off, and that's a bitch.

Funny thing about Dexcool, it has an addative that softens plastic.
What are the intake gaskets and radiator tanks made from???? PLASTIC.
What fuckin stupid-ass GM wizard came up w/that shit.

Felpro makes an updated intake gasket for the old 5.7 that incorporates a stamped aluminum sheet with bonded rubber for the sealing. Even if the intake is pitted from corrosion it's made to seal it up.
I always use a light coat of Honda Bond for added insurance.



Cross your fingers and pray every night that you'll never have to change power steering/hydro boost hoses (which are prone to leak). That's another $600/3 hour job.

Well at least mine was $480, timing belt included on the Accord. But at least I have peace of mined on the timing belt now.

Bob are you having some issues with your new truck? I thought I read somewhere you wrapped it around a tree or othewise just got into an accident. And that it sucked a bunch of dirt and now this...
'03 CR500 powered by...umm...a new motor?

1. The accident: A big, concrete light pole base jumped behind my truck while I was backing up.... This guy fixed it right, for CHEEEEEEP!!!

What kind of tuner do you have? I started out with a Hypertech 100 hp, but now I have a PPE 220 hp. It has four levels, but I am running it at three. I don't want to hurt my transmission with level four. I installed a Transgo JR, deep pan, and switched to Transynd synthetic just to be safe.

My fuel mileage is not nearly as good as yours, but I have big tires and only go on short trips. The truck only has 5000 miles on it also.

I think the tuner was $325.00, that's a lot of hp/$.

I have the PPE too. Its set at 120hp, but it defuels on the shifts to keep the tranny together.

My truck has small tires, is lowered in the back, and runs around pretty light.

I've changed all the fluids to the lightest grade GM recommends, including 5w40 oil.

It got 19 mpg on the drive home from Phoenix.

Gained 2 mpg with the complete servicing

2.5 more with the tuner , EGR blocker plate, and diesel fuel additive.

If I'm racing between stoplights, the mileage goes down.

I love my truck.

I think the humane society stepped in and caused trouble.
Apparently if someone (or their dog) is stupid enough to drink Dexcool, it'll only give you the runs. Won't be pushing up daisies like w/the green stuff.
