UMMM.... What's this

Post by hagendog »

Sold this motor and the guy sent me these pics. I never took it apart but I see what he's saying. What caused this and is this fixable or do I need to get him a left case? Let me know

is that a motor Glen worked on ? Id call him up and talk to him and see if its anything to worry about then ask him to repsond to this posting so the guy who bought it can read about it .......
but that is weird I have never seen that before.
I cant think of anyone with more experince with these motors than Glen

Casting flaw..... I had seen this before on my 88 motor but wasn't as bad as this one. I'll let some more people give input and then go from there, Thanks guys!

Probably is a casting flaw.

I would take a pencel grinder/ demell with a ball end file, take some off. The radius left will help.

I have seen that on every 500 engine I have ever had down. I just atributed it to a casting flaw.

That's a flaw, I had the same nasty looking one in my 88 case, and an even more questionable looking one behind the crank gear, smoothed them out and ran it for a season, nothing changed.

Even if it was a crack, the only way it can be there is if something has moved, I doubt the case is standing proud, or seperated from the other case at the center gasket.
