So..... I flushed ( not drained and refilled....) EVERY fluid on the truck.... Everything looked bitchin, with the exception of the front diff magnet, it had more metal that I would have liked to see...

What wasent so bitchin'? The intake tract.

It looked like Tony Montana used it to suck all the coke out of his shag carpeting , after a week long rager...

The cause? What else.... stupid, fucked up, K&N air filter.

Why do people buy these things? There was a fine layer of silt / talcum powder all the way to the turbo.

I should send them the stuff, like Anthrax......

Fuckers....

K&N SUCKS!!!!!!

newer diesels turn much higher rpms than the old ones. the ford 7.3 is still just a bored and stroked 6.9 from like 1985. its a time tested design and turns real low rpms but wouldn't meet '04 emissions requirements. the newer ones get much lower mileage and turn much higher rpms to meet emissions requirements.

Bob, that 20mpg is better than Justins 6-10 mpg  I still thing he has f-ed up injectors. Oh, and watch that alison 5speed (unless you got the bullet proof 4l80e  ) I've heard some bad things about the alison 5 speed and have a buddy who blew his up driving on the street empty at 62,000 miles right when the warranty was up!

All trannys brake eventually yes some are built stouter than others but the allison is 95% hype.

Anything with clutches is gonna burn up eventually no matter how big or how well designed, keep fresh fluid in and keep it cool, a shift kit is also another big help as the clutches dont get time to slip and get hot.

like k&n, afe uses a cotton gauze as the primary filter media (the filters, aside to oil coloring function the same). the problems (if any) that people experience is the OVER oiling of them or they get in a hurry and use compressed air to try to dry them faster.

i personaly like k&n and afe style filters for most applications. i wont run anything else in my boat but the k&n. my cars or trucks i will run either k&n or afe... as far as my dirt bike goes i run the no toil now due to the ease of chucking it in my washing machine and its done.

i think fram even got on board with their own k&n rip off called the airhog(or something like that).

The Airhog Fram stuff was built by S&B Filter. Their diesel filters are built with 8 layers of cotton/gauze and they test to the ISO 5011 standard for filtration in house. Not as well known as AFE or K&N, but it's the only cotton/gauze filter I would run.

~8mpg going to pismo, probably towing 10,000lb doing 55mph. I based the calc off the amound of fuel burned compared to # of miles according to mapquest, so trucks speedo and computer have nothing to do with it. they get closer to 6mpg hailin' the mail to dumont!
I think he might have a couple fudged up injectors.

The worst I ever got (5.4 supercharged) was a haul balls trip to dumont, I had my trailer and two bikes and hung around 90mph the whole way there. When I got home I calculated 4.8 mpg (on premium)

It is pretty cool leaving the house and being camped in under 2 hrs tho

you cant beat a diesel!
32?! :bsmeter:

The overhead lie-o-meter does just that...lie. I have an 03 Excursion 7.3 with lotsa mods and rarely get 25ish hwy doing 70, empty. Towing is more like 15-17 at best - I tow a 28' 10k lb WW. Still waay better than a gasser. Only if those asshats would lower the cost of diesel to below gas where it belongs. Oil below $90/barrel today. WTF?? Gas should be under $3/Gal - what gives? Sorry for the small rant.
believe what you want. Pic taken last year hauling down the Eway headed to the Outer Banks, NC. the new low sulfur diesel that just started appearing has had about a 5-6 MPG impact on our mileage over last year, but using cetane booster and other diesel additives brings it back up to only a 1-2 mpg drop.

They used to be good (for Ford PSD) a while back...but its mainly lotsa marketing junk now. Can get better results thru other tuners for way less $$$..maybe they make better products for Chevy?

Exactly. I can get my lie-o-meter to say 99.9MPG cruising downhill. lol. The minute you hook up exhaust to the 7.3, the meter goes nuts.

Yup.

I had on my LLY a Magnaflow downpipe back 4", an intake and Superchips tune on Level 3. I got zero increase in MPG. I took the tune down to Level 1 and again, no increase.
It did increase the fun factor a whole bunch. This was with stock gears and 31.5 tall Michelin LTX's. I drove this truck in this configuration for 60k plus miles and I never got over 18-19 MPG.

All other manufacturers are "Programers" not tuners and replace your factory program voiding your warranty with General Motors and yes they can tell if the factory program has been replaced. Let me just say that one of my close friends works at GM he is their rep where warranties are concerned one of those guy's that gets sent to Dealerships when you have a warranty issue and drives an LLY and him and I run the same set ups Gale Banks Intercooler, Exhaust, Tuner w/Six gun , Intake, Super scoop, Torque converter and mine is still under warranty. There are other tunes out there for less money that will make more horse power than mine but, not many. As for reliability, form, fit, function and finish as far as the warranty goes there are none.
