Who wants a dyno pull?

Post by 90cr500guy »

I went to MDR in Escondido, CA today for some welding.
These guys do land speed record stuff with bikes.
MDR AirTech holds numerous records including 147mph with a Honda CX500, yes a pushrod twin 500cc
Do a little web search and they come up quite a bit.
Any ways, they have a dyno and if we get a group together on a Saturday, they will do dyno pulls for $25 each and give you a pull print out.
I havent set any dates yet, just want to see how many would be willing to show up.
An inexpensive way to see how you bike compares to others.
I'm curious

Its worth a trip just to see the stuff in his shop

thats cool idea. about 6 months ago i was going to put my stock bike on a dyno in AZ, i even scrounged up a old 18" street tire to use, but i never got around to mounting the tire. my new motor is definatly going on the dyno once i get it mounted in a chassis- it might require a small shot of No2 but im going to do what it takes to get it over 100+hp

Most of you would be dissapointed anyways. It's always the guy who thinks he ain't got anything special that has the strongest run. All the tools talking shit about how strong their motors are pull 10-20 less horsepower than they claim. I've got nothing to brag about...my motor is basically stock. It feels fast as shit but It would probably only turn 40 hp on a dyno

this one will be most radical motor ive done so far and confident it would do good on a dyno. i wanted to run the fuel pump to the bottom end but didnt feel like splitting cases so i said F@#k it and plumbed it to the transfer. i remeber jerry hall telling me you will probly never break 65hp with off the shelf pipe, no matter how much grinding you do on the cylinder

Well I guess his "probly" has been busted.

I would like to know how your new cylinder there does, sounds mean as hell

thats why i said probly. in jerrys and teem trubbles case, they both own shops with their own dynos, so you would expect their stuff to have a few more HP than the average guy. when i finally run my new motor ill be able to make small adjustments but more or less ill have to live with the power or lack of power it puts out. i dont have the time, money, resources or equiptment to do 100 dyno pulls or try 1000 carb/pipe combinations. if teem trubble has 70hp motor with off the shelf pipe and running pump gas then i have the up most respect for that

Let me just say it wasn't pump gas and it has a few mods here and there but, no one ever asked if it was stock and I never said it was

The first pipe I made was a snail type pipe that replaced the down pipe on my 75 CR125 Elsinore and I had to machine fins off the head to make it work  yeah I've thought about it but, I already have the Lighting coils and the tubeless projects on the back burner now if I started one more thing before I finish Frank's bike he'll probably poke his own eye's out with an ice pick :P

Dude you have to change your username now, lol. Did you get the bottom part of the sheet with the air fuel ratios? I'm just curious what afr these motors like to run. I have a wideband but no idea what to tune to. Most cars put out the most power around 12.5:1 (naturally aspirated) and are most efficient at 14.7:1.
