Jetting
Jetting
Well I finally got the motor back in the bike after a rebuild. Now I know its running rich on the bottom end. I'm getting spooge and the bike starts with the choke off when its cold. Put the choke on and it dies. Its got stock jetting ('89) PJ 55 and MJ 170. I've read Bob's thread but I just dont know where to start when it comes to the needle and floats. I'm not looking for perfect jetting, rather just a moderate good running bike. Where should I start (BTW its a stock PJ) ?

It could be to lean and still spooge. But not in this case, however mine does off idle.
Anyway it could start off with a 52 but what happens when the mixture screw is at 2 turns out? Will it still run at 1/2 a turn out? If not, put a smaller one in and try again.
The stock 1368 needle should work ok on the fouth from the bottom at Oct. But 1468's are usual better. 170 should be fine.
These PJ's seem real tempermental in the pilot jet.

I think I found it under 125's. But Honda numbers are a pain.
But better to call John at sundco and order a DGJ which is a 1468, CGJ are 1368.
Check out there chart at www.sudco.com
In fact the magic Bob needle is believed to be the DGN that may work better if/since the pilot is rich.
As a ball park D=3/4 G=1/2 N=1/4 throttle openings.
But all this will take a few tries to get it where you like it / or should be.
