EVan Flats, Labor Day 2008
great time
well guys i have to say that this was the best hoon ride that i have been on. i had a super fun time all around. the families on this trip were awesome. I didn't get in till dark on saturday, i pull into camp and it looked like a movie theatre! fun time in the camp for sure. great food, cold drinks, lots of laughs.
this place is kinda tough to get to, but totally worth it. TTM and I had a great ride yesterday and sunday's ride was awesome as well. I haven't seen single track this good anywhere else in so cal.
I got there via I-5 to 99 to 178 to 155 to Rancheria. took a little over an hour from Bakersfield.
I on the way out i took Rancheria all the way down to Bakersfield. some of the guys thought i was crazy cause none of it was paved, but it was freshly grated and wide and really gradual slope. awesome views as well. there are trails headed off this road all the way down. I left camp at 1:30 and was BBQing in LA at 5.
bummer about the road for the other guys. I was bummed about Bob's ankle, i didn't get to ride with him. I did take his bike out for a ride though. the numbers just don't match for me he's 6' 7'' and I'm 5'6''. really well built bike and SOLID motor .
TTM's bike is sweet as well, i got a quick loop on it too!
Conner and Corey are total rippers Mike!!!
thanks for the fuel C.Peck!
I WILL ABSOLUTELY BE COMING BACK!

On the way home Conner and Cory said "Jeff rides a 500 pretty good for a short guy" My wife didn't like that comment... me I was laughing my ass off... My wife says "What's so funny?" I told her at least they didn't say " a short fat guy with funny socks" hahahahahahaha.

First, I want say this was a great group of rides and riders. Mike took us on some trails that I thought I might not make it back from, but with Bob and Ryan's help, thanks to both of you, I made it back to camp. The single track on Sunday was awesome. Garrett is a tough rider and stuck it out, great job, with a 250 no less. The food could not have been better. I don't eat like that at home. What a treat. The kids had great fun and the wives get the "hats off" for cooking and for providing additional pretty scenery. The movies were great and the dust sucked.
Next, I never said I had driven up the dirt road from Poso Flat Rd. Because I didn't. I said at the end of Poso's paved road there was a sign posted saying " seasonal gate closure". I also said there was a huge dirt hill and I had turned around and driven back out and taken Granite Rd through Glennville. My comments were that the Ranger would have info on whether the gate was closed or if it was passable with trailers. I took Rancheria up to Hwy 155 then Granite Rd to the 99 in Bakersfield. I am truly sorry for anyone's return trip, but I specifically said we needed to ask the Rangers. I had/have no idea if the route taken was passable/ accessible. That's why I went the other way or 26 extra miles around the long way. If anyone feels they need a scape goat, I'll be it, but people need to LISTEN to what's being said!!!!!!!!

since mav is my non legal adopted son....i think he is part of the dns family! because if he was my real son i'd have to kick his ass 3 times once for riding a 4 stroke and twice for the KTMsouth central hoon wrote:bob thanks for the photos. did anyone else take any?
I don't think Mav's name made the list. we gotta get him off that KTM and onto a CR!

I spoke with Andy, yea he gave me directions to go that way, with a very "matter -of -fact" tone...
Did he actually tell me to go that way..... I'm not sure
Did he tell me he came up that way? My recollection says yes, his says no.
Have I gotten things spun around before?
Absolutely!!
If you guys remember, I was wishing death upon Andy out one side of my mouth, and saying how out of character it seemed for Andy to be wishing death upon us? Andy seems like a great guy who would never pull some kind of bullshit on anyone.
So what does this all mean?
I think I fucked up, took something I heard too literal, only got one piece of the story, and ran with it.
I was so not looking foreword to driving back to Ridgecrest again on the way home, something that sounded better went straight to the front burner without too much investigation.
If I had heard the part of the story about the Ranger being consulted before this route got the go ahead.... I would not have been so gung-ho.
So..... send all the complaints, bills, hard feelings, and flaming bags of dog poo to my front porch, and give ol' Andy a pat on the back next time you see him....
My bad.....
Bob
