actually, I take that back, I just put the topend on marshalls bike with the motor in place... you just have to not have the dowels in the cylinder, instead in the case. now if you go to pull the topend and the dowells are stuck in the jug, then you will have to take everything apart, but then put the bottomend back in place while the jug is at the machineshap and buy some new dowels and put them it the case with a little antiseize and you'll never have a problem again.
ok, so I'm nearing completion on this beast. airbox is completely finished, coil mount is in place and tank is done. started on coolant lines and need to do exhaust mounts, then the conversion will be complete.

One problem I've had with both of my gen-4 conversions is the front of the motor where the long waterpump bolt goes through touches the front mount weld. even after grinding the weld down some it still touches, just enough the keep the swingarm bolt from goinjg through. This is why there is no swingarm bolt in the pics. this motor is only a model, the motor going in the bike is just one more thing I am waiting for. that front of the case wil need just a tiny bit of grinding (slightly flaten that rounded portiong at the front where that waterpump bolt goes through). I don't want to do any grinding on the wrong motor even if it is really slight.

that gen-1 125 airboot is perfect! On my bike the gen-1 250 boot very slightly rubs the shock spring, not this 125 boot. It was a little hard to fit on the carb, but I squeezed it on, then gave it a few heat cycles with the heat gun. The 500 boot was about an inch too short, I think that might be a X and R difference.

here are some pics

oh, and yes... that is a full sized plug. I did use my last gen-1 kit coil adapter since marshall is using the stock 500 coil and there isn't enough room on that peice to mount it the way I mounted my 250 coil on mine. Came out nice though and no welding, I just drilled and tapped 2 holes.

I do need to grind that outer weld on the front mounts, its just late and I didn't want to wake the neighbors.

basically finished... I'm waiting for Marshall to bring me the motor, headstay and exhaust mounts.
the rear silencer bolt will use a cr500 rear pipe mount, the front silencer bolt is a plate I welded on that is drilled and tapped, the front pipe uses the stock 500 front mount. the rear mount will require modifying the pipe, and I'm not sure this is the pipe marshall is keeping on there, so I left it without a rear pipe mount. both my gen-1 and gen-4 don't have rear pipe mounts and are fine.
the coolant lines are entirely made up of stock 500 hoses and stock crf250 lines with the addition of a hose splitter for a '02-'04 crf450 $6 (carter had instock today  ) and a 3/4"-5/8" hose adapter (autozone $3). I used the stock upper hoses and the stock crf upper hose. al of them had to be cut down. the lower is half 500 lower hose and half crf lower hose trimmed on the top and bottom with the rad outlet cut about 1/2" shorter.
so, yeah, the gas tank is sitting full of water overnight to check for leaks, and otherwise I am done until I get the head stay and the right motor.

so, I took my gen-4 out for her first ride today... I think I might have to go to the hospital since my chubby hasn't gone away since!
it takes some getting used to, my gen-1 is definitly more stable at speed, while the gen-4 is very sensitive. it hits the whoops and burrms wwaayyy better and jumps wwaaayyy better, but in the gravel washes in 4th and 5th, the gen-1 was more stable. I almost went over the bars a couple times from over steering. will take some getting used to, btu all together it is an unbeatable package! :D
we had a new guy riding with us, his nae is Bill and he just signed up on the other board as lasvegasAE. he was riding on a bone stock '85 cr500 and keeping up very well considering. he is interested in going an AF conversion.
The stock '91 motor hels a lot too, my gen-1 is simply too hard to control on the trails, this stock motor was great for lugging up some nasty rocky shit!

EAT A DICK, FOO!! I was at the hospitol with Cory and Jen till like 3am. Then had to eat so by the time I got home it was 4am and you guys were just about to get up and load. I could barely stand long enough to take a piss so I was like "F" it, im going to BED!! I hate riding when im dead tired, last couple times I did that I almost ate it HARD...

Bill came by afterwards by himself since you had umbilical issues with your "box". So I took his 85 for a spin, he thought it was a jetting issue because the bike "was a dog up top". I had to explain to him how his last bike (125!! ) had a totally different power band. His bike actually runs pretty dam good for a leaky base gasket. I lent him my Motion Pro tool so he can retorque the base studs and see if its salvageable...

I'm just giving you a hard time!
yeah, I noticed that leaky base gasket and suggested he retorque it and put some loc-tite on those studs. I felt bad for his qwad riding buddy, Jason was taking us through some hairy shit (like the spot you bent yours bars last time, only up that hill) :D

yeah, the guy with the waterheater flaked on me, so I had to go to home depot and drop $400 on a new one :x plus its a heavy SOB, so the install was fun, especially when the copper flare fitting fell apart!
Marshall was supposed to come by at like noon, but I didn't get a call back from him until like 6 pm and he said he was going to mt charleston, so he'd bring the parts by tomorrow
So in retrospect, I should have just gone by your place since everyone flaked on me.

Before you finish welded his frame up you should have pissed in the farme spars and left a pin hole. So his bike would stink like piss for a few months...HAHAHA

Hey Danny, how hard is it to get at the spark plug? From the pictures it looks pretty tough.

yeah, I had a wrinkle that made a pin sized hole. I heated it up and mashed it so it was plugged, then cut up an extra sheet of plastic and molded it over the thin spot. so she is good to go!
