wanted: flywheel and ignition backing plate.. ignition pickup would be nice too, but not required..
im going to measure the flywheel, measure whatever stators i can get my hands on, and find the "largest" one i can fit... then mod the backing plate to hold it.
atleast thats the plan.. i need to do SOMETHING.. i need more light then what i have, but i dont really want to drop several hundred if i can get something else to work well. im not looking for 200watts, just enough to run a small headlight and a LED tail....
if anyone has anything cheap to donate to the cause, that would be great.

Why not just run a 12v battery in the seat like on the nitrous setups, you could run the 35w coil with a rectifyer/regulator to charge the battery and you would probably get a good hour of great light on one charge.
Ive been considering doing this on my AF, the 35 w coil works alright at anything above say 4500 rpm but below that it sux balls, with a battery as a buffer I think it would work good.

http://trailtech.net/ here ya go. just use a external batt for now. good for about 3-4 hours on one charge.
Niether of thoes will work when you're talking longer rides. What if i wanted to ride to work?
that'll 'get me by' but the AC system i have right now with the parking light/LED tail works too... for now.
id rather build something that WORKS... even if it takes some effort on my part.
we currently cant buy what i want, so theres only two ways to do this:
1. pay alot of money for someone to do the custom work and get it done.
2. do it yourself.
unless i magically get alot of money, im stuck at #2... its not Horribly complicated.. just a shitload of thought. because its both a flywheel, a ignition trigger, high side ignition voltage generator and timing for that, and the stator, and theres the flying magnet assembly.... none of it horribly complex, yet you have to think about it...
maybe i'll never finish the project.. but id like to try...
so anyone have a spare flywheel/backing plate?

Re: lights
i have the same one in my bike.kball1313 wrote:I have a moose 45w lighting coil for the stock stator plate. New in the package.
when you goto install it, be REALLY careful about it clearing the flywheel... theres a HIGH chance you'll be unwrapping a few turns just so it'll clear the inside of your flywheel. when you drill and tap the holes to mount it, i measured and atleast in my case, by moving the holes SLIGHTLY to the inside, the coil moved to a better position. i also re-wrapped it a little fatter on the ends to try to make up for so much removed for the middle.. took some work, not a plug and play job.
rather then ground it on the coil end, i grounded it on the small screw at the bottom of the backing plate with how I re-wrapped it, it just worked out better that way.
Good luck with it man.
If anyone has a BACKING PLATE and/or FLYWHEEL, please let me know.
