Packing for quiet...

Post by DOHCFOX »

Yeah yeah yeah, I'm rebuilding the CR5 that I've never ridden. Shoot. At least it's going into a decent frame, ah hem ah hem.

So I'm looking at repacking my stock CR hockey stick. Is this silencer capable of being fairly quiet? I'm even thinking of going with a DB Snorkle mainly because I plan on riding this beast in the city here and there.
Seattle Times City center attacked by what appears to be 2 stroke open class motocross bike! Footage at 11:00!
Seattle Times All hotties 19-23 years of age who were in vicinity of two stroke motorcycle attack in Downtown Seattle now pregnant!
Anyways, I'm thinkin' a quality standard repack is in order or is there anything that I can do to improve on it?

My bike has a stock pipe, but with a FMF Turbine Core II silencer.

Why is my bike so quiet?

No rattles.

You cant beleive how much noise is generated from metal banging around on a dirt bike.

Part of why I built my own bike, any why it took a little longer, was to make sure everything was mounted as rigidly as possible.

Is the Turbine Core II Silencer quieter than a freshly packed stocker?

No , the stocker is quieter.

I dont think the FMF "Q" is quieter than a Turbine Core II, just bigger and heavier.

Yes. Here are some things I did to silence that crap: Slipped some clear rubber hose over the pipe springs. Siliconed the radiator grills in place. Glued some foam to the number plate where it makes contact with the forks. Shimmed the levers so they can't vibrate and use thin 1.5mm plastic washers behind the rad shrouds to prevent them from vibrating and eating into my aluminum frame. I think a good well done rebuild can reduce noise a great deal also. Apposed to a lot of big bores when they start, it's not the exhaust note you hear, but the dings, pings, knocks, and clunks of the motor.

I have a theory that mr and mrs MFDB have a big pink butt plug and she likes to use it on him, and whenever I share this theory with them, they never argue.......... :D
