Subframe swaps - can GEN 1 use a GEN 2 or newer?

I don't like the looks of the gen 1 plastics, imagine that - building a SM and would prefer to swap the subfame if possible to get newer plastic on the bike. I know it can be done with minimal fabing - keeping the gen 1 sub and making a few bits to get the plastic on. Would rather just use the subframe needed for the newer plasic if possible. Anybody tried newer subframes on the gen 1 front?

if it's anything like the 1rst gen 450 frame compared to the 2nd or 3rd gen 450 frame then it's nothing alike and won't work without serious mods that wouldn't be worth the time...i don't mind the way gen 1 250 plastics look, you just need to trick out the wheels n' shit to take away from the hockey sticks...
