87' cr500 motor with 01' case cover

Just put my 87' motor back together with a new 01' case cover and new water pump stuff. The only problem now is the coolant line from the cylinder to the pump. Has anyone found a stock coolant line with similair bends?? The oem is to short on the 87', and the pipe is super tight to the motor. I suppose I could find some high temp braided flex, but that is a bitch to clamp and I don't want to get into changing fittings.

Well here is what I came up with for a "test" fix. I reversed the old hose, cut off the bad end, and used a 90 3/4 fitting.

This bike I've owned a lonnnnnnggggg time. It has a new pro circuit pipe and other new stuff I'll add later this week. I'm either gonna tard it this winter, or AF it. I've got other bikes to play with for a while, but need a machine to keep my 650R buddy in line!!!!!

Dont worry about the pipe touching the exhaust, my AF has been like that since I put it together and its yet to melt or leak.

noticed on another site ya got an 87 motor on one of your converts. Looks good!!! I love that motor vs most other cr's I've ridden. What did you use for your coolant line or did you do the same type of thing I did. thanks

Thanks for posting. I just picked up an 87' engine off ebay and have to replace that cover. Making the hoses work without having some custom made was my big question.

I hope you can see it in this picture, i used 2 hoses and a connector, because it was late and i neede to ride, I cut it low and twisted the hose putting it on. I have 1/2 to 3/4 inch of room between the pipe and hose.

I haven't seen it lately but NAPA (auto parts place in case someone doesn't know) used to make radiator hoses while you waited. I doubt they still do but someone is bound to do it. That would be the ultimate.

BTW, in the last 3 pics, thats the stock hose and a scrap peice of 3/4" hose for the strait part and the copper elbow was like $2 at home depot.
couldn't see it standing next to the bike either.

I didn't have the right one, but I had a spare bolt the right length and thread from an old yamaha project and put it in there. It still in there, I can't bring myself to spend the $ on a bolt just to have the right head

Adam over here we call that a "niglet" bolt with a french accent so not to offend anyone and I just put one in my toolbox to give to "Danlet" next weekend...

as they are here too. usually if its been patched , not fixed its also "*-rigged"

Yeah thats the fix. I cobbed mine for a quick test fix, but will have to get new hose and a metal hose-hose connector. Just something about trusting a plastic 90 that doesn't sit well with my original setup. Gotta pipe and some other motor goodies comin. Still deceiding on a SM or AF convert for a winter project. Thanks for all the help guys.
