What's the difference between an 84 and an 85 tranny?

don't think so. The best way to find out for sure is to use a partsfiche site and compare part numbers. if the numbers watch, then there you go!
I know the ratios are the same for '84-'87

84-85 Have 3 pawls,86 on has 4 pawls,I think 84-85 are the same trannys

if you've got an 85 you can use all of the trans gears from the 84

You sure about that cause last year I swapped my 86 tranny for a 85 and my 86 gears have 4 and the 85's have 3

the list here should say that '84 has the same ratio as '85, but whatever.....
