Bad news... have him in your prayers....

Post by dannygraves »

So about 2 weeks ago I get a call from my Dad and he tells me uncle Rick might die that very night...

He was fine up until them, but it turns out he had a golfball sized tumor on his intestin between his liver and gall blader and the gall blader couldn'
t drain, so he got sick and turned yellow. When they got to the hospital to doctors had to drain it, so they did an operation to attach a shunt or whatever to drain it. After the surgery he came down with double phneumonia and they didn't think he'd make it to the next day. a couple days later he was driving his trucks.

He is the hardest working, and most henest and down to earth guy you'll ever meet, a real good guy with 4 kids (the youngest is 18 ) and a family owned cement mixer company. Oh, and he is only 50.

Yesterday they went in to have the tumor removed and when they opened him up, they discovered it is everywhere! They just stitched him back up and are going to try kemo... but they say it is bad and he should get his affairs in order...

I'm not much of a religious person, but he is definitly in my prayers.

This shit never happens to assholes, its always the good guys... FUCKED!

My brother-in-law - although a little older at 60 - is in the same boat. Bouts of extreme lethargy and then eventually he went yellow with jaundice. Couldn't find anything although indicators in his blood were that he had cancer....somewhere. Then they found a hot spot on his pancreas and 3 days let they heaved it out and did some major plumbing to get things working again. Now they are saying it is Stage 2 and in his lymph nodes too so chemo and radiation starts this week. He is one tough Italian-American from Chicago and if anyone can beat it - he can. But we pray every night for him anyway. Father of four kids 7-15.

My thoughts and prayers are with your Uncle and anyone else in the same situation. Live life to the full because who knows what cards you are going to get dealt. But do be optimistic - a lady across our street has lung cancer and was given 3 months to live...3 years ago. She is not in good shape but the strength and love of her family (I believe) have helped her fight it. It is simply not our privilege to understand how Nature/God works in these things.

thanks guys! yeah, he is one tough dude, and I'm optimistic that he will last a good while.
five or six years back he was driving a semi for a logging company and jackknifed and a whole crap load of logs went right through the cab, they thought he was dead, he broke almost every bone in his body, but he pulled through that just fine

My hopes and prayers to your Uncle Rick, Danny.
Kemo has come a long way since it fixed me 31 years ago and I wasn't much better(cancer in the bones). The kemo is less toxic and doesn't make you nearly as sick as it used to. I'm keeping positive that the Doctors will sort this out.

I got the call this morning... He was driving his trucks until a week ago. Wasn't feeling very well and decided to take it easy and just didn't wake up this morning.
Tough bastard held out for a year though and didn't spend a single day in a hospital bed. He got to spend his last moments at home with his family...
