Old Bike Movies
I was just crusing the A/F section and saw the post by Skidmark about Time Rider, and was wondering if anyone here remembers an old movie called Sidewinder 1? If I remember right they were racing 1970's Maicos that were water cooled and had disc brakes. That post just got me thinkin g of all the old motorcycle movies that came out when I was a kid. Another good one was called Dirt. Hard to find now but good beer drinking brain candy!

Remember that movie where the dudes were riding around Baja and at the end the one guy jumped the motorcycle off the cliff and landed dead on the beach? Or that one where Steve McQueen jumped out of the Nazi concentration camp on a big old military bike? The very first movie I ever saw in a theater was On Any Sunday way back in the early 70's. That was what got me into bikes.
Don't Clyde it, ride it!

"Who can forget Steve McQueen in "The Great Escape" as he rode that old bike up and over the fence while trying to escape the Germans. Actually, McQueen didn't do the jump. It was done by stuntman Bud Ekins which Steve acknowledged publicly at the time. Doesn't matter to me though...in my mind Steve will always be THE MAN!"

Steve was the Man.... I didnt know about the 6 Day Trial....
"McQueen also competed in off-road motorcycle racing. His first off-road motorcycle was a Triumph 500cc that he purchased from friend and stuntman Bud Ekins. McQueen raced in many of the top off-road races on the West Coast during the '60s and early 1970s, including the Baja 1000, the Mint 400 and the Elsinore Grand Prix. In 1964, he represented the United States in the International Six Days Trial, a form of off-road motorcycling Olympics. He was inducted in the Off-road Motorsports Hall of Fame in 1978. In 1971, Solar Productions funded the now-classic motorcycle documentary On Any Sunday, in which McQueen himself is featured, along with racing legends Mert Lawwill and Malcolm Smith. Also in 1971, McQueen was on the cover of Sports Illustrated magazine riding a Husqvarna dirt bike.
McQueen was interested in collecting classic motorcycles. By the time of his death, his collection included over 100 motorcycles and was valued in the millions of dollars"From Wikipedia...

...about the Elsinore GP.
The morning of prior to the main event "aka" The "Harvey Mushman 100" which is the official name of the 100-mile, 26 lap, 3 hour event. Riders are staged in huge waves for the start in downtown Lake Elsinore. The race is called the Harvey Mushman in honor of the late Steve McQueen, who used "Harvey Mushman" as an alias so as not to call attention to himself. McQueen and Producer Bruce Brown really put this race on the map with the great documentary film On Any Sunday.
