yz465 ?

Post by 100hp honda »

dude at my work has one he says its in good shape, he said it was '81 i believe, said he would sell it for cheap. i rode one years ago and it seems pretty powerful but i had nothing to compare it to at the time. are any parts still available if anything breaks ? was thinking of buying it for a beater bike for couple hundred bucks :?:

Why not let someone who is into vintage MX or MX restorations have it?

Just to buy it and beat on it would be a waste of old vintage iron

Parts is gettin scarce. I did a 78 125 and trackin down the stuff for that was a bitch.
The 465 was a real ass kicker for its time, always wanted one. If its all there, buy it.

If it is less than $500, it is worth buying. You could ride it int the ground, part it out, or renovate it in some way. I am prejudiced and hope you do the latter. It is a good bike for historic motocross and runs in class with other twin shock bikes - Suzuki RM465, Maico 440, etc. No obvious gotchas and NOS parts are available. Because the bike has a dedicated following there are after-market companies doing replica plastic, seat covers, pipes etc.

It was THE open class bike prior to the release of the CR480. Yamaha screwed the pooch when they turned it into the 490.

I had an old IT in high school, same motor. Steering and suspension sucked, but what a fun bike!
