by being talkative, polite, well dressed... and mostly, being ballsy.. i walked into my DMV with the former owners title to a CR500... and walked out with a street legal title, registration and license plate.
i now own a STREET "LEGAL" CR500...
... and they thought i was nuts for driving 26 hours to pickup a dirtbike.....

South Carolina... i know.. not as impressive as if i did it in Cali.. but hey.. its still a CR500 street legal on paper.
now im onto my next big challange... figuring out how im going to afford a lighting coil for my CR..
the 35watt addons wont cut it..
i cant afford the Service Honda Ignition light.
and you cant even get the Baja Designs one anymore.

that sounds awesome to me.
really, i KNOW theres some off the shelf coil sitting there that i COULD use with a simple homemade backing plate... and have that run like a service honda light...
but i dont have the resources or income available to me to fully research that aspect of it.
the idea of a addon coil has alot of appeal too, as i wouldnt mind a bit more flywheel weight... would help leaving stoplights, as well as even out that initial hit when it gets on the pipe (good for fun, bad for merging into traffic)
if Mike was a test user for a new coil setup, im mechanically and electrically inclined.. and i plan to ride it a bit on the street.

hey, not full on SM, just a quick wheel swap to save gas money going to work and have more fun during my drive

plus, thats the cool thing about having 2 bikes, during the dunes season I will probably mostly ride my gen-1 so the gen-4 will probably always have the SM wheels on it, but then trail season its too hot to ride a bike home from work anyway... so the gen-4 will have nobbies. Having 2 bikes is gonna kick ass!

I dunno, I'm pretty jazzed about my 125hp Sabre...dannygraves wrote:Whats cooler than riding a cr500 to work!?
Thing is downright wicked powerful.
Not to take away anything from a streetable CR500, mind you.

I tell you what, a cr500 on the street is only comfy for short trips, a street bike is better, but I went and split it down the middl and bought the XR650R. With the right tires it will kick ass as a streetable machine.dannygraves wrote:Whats cooler than riding a cr500 to work!?

street cr500
I rode my supermoto 500 all year last year and put about 2000 miles on it. No b/s.
Re: street cr500
my daily drivers are broken, so i put over 500miles on the CR500 this week.. no BS.. lolkball1313 wrote:I rode my supermoto 500 all year last year and put about 2000 miles on it. No b/s.
i cant say it was fun the whole time though... interstate in traffic with a CR500 and a dim headlight... not the best times.
i did almost get nailed by some lady.. she didnt look my direction at all, and just pulled out.. i nailed the gas and got by the nose of her car with about a foot of clearance between my rear wheel and her bumper.. however the truck behind me nailed her right behind her drivers side door...
hopefully, my normal daily driver (ducati 749) will be back together tonight.
