The short-term result will be that I will have a new OEM ignition on my bike and AJ will have the two Electrosport units back for examination. I'll have something that works for me, and AJ can determine whether there was any technical problem with either unit. IMO, the design and me didn't go together and this is a good outcome for the moment. AJ also offered up a Moose coil so I had some form of lighting.

Is the fix in?

I haven't heard anything on this subject in a while and am still craving some lights. Has Service Honda figured out the issue or are they still selling the units that need rabbit kicks to start?

Good to hear. I was almost going to try to find an E-Line but I'd rather not drop the cash on something that won't be supported in the future.

I cant speak for the SH but many of the aftermarket coils are made in China now, ie junk.

Are you talking ignition coil or lighting coil? I didn't know there were many lighting coils and I'm looking for lights. Something over 100 watts. If the service unit had a couple of different maps, or at least an improved map, plus started with one big kick (my favorite style of kicking) and kept the 130 watt lighting coil I'd be all over it.

In the recent test of the 2008 SH CR500AF, MXA did not like the ignition and went back to stock. However AJ has said that this was not the current SH (Electrosport) unit but something different with multiple ignition maps they are working on and fitted to the test bike.

I already spoke with the tech guy at Baja Designs, there isn't anyone making a coil more than 50 watts for the 500. He rattled off a long list of stators that have been made over the years but he said there isn't anything available except for the SH coil.

I love night riding and want to get my bike set up with something.

I read that article but read it a bit differently. What I got out of it was that the mag did not like the alternate map they had tried, so they flipped the switch and went back to the stock map.

Reading AJ's comment in the other dimension, they tried both curves on the new ignition and liked neither, then went to the stock OEM setup. They did not try the current ignition. My point was but something is being worked on, but it is not clear whether it will change the starting characteristics. Personally I am sending back my 1st SH ignition which might be faulty, and putting the 2nd SH ignition on the bike until I get a new OEM setup from SH or buy same. Who knows it may turn out I simply had a faulty unit I now it will start better.

After trying and trying to start Jay's bike this weekend and watching people try to start it. Why in the hell would anybody want that? I'm sure there are lots of them that work and I'm sure there are lots of them that don't but, after talking to Jay about it and them having his for over a month that's bullshit. Sorry Jay just my opinion...

However "I am building 200 watt high output lighting coils" and taking orders soon! Look for my contact info here in the approved vendors section.

200 watts, sweet. Will this be E-line style or can you fit it all under the existing ignition cover?

Jay I am waiting for Mr. Gray to return my fly wheel puller. I should be down in the lower desert Friday to give him his forks I just did for him and get it then. Saturday I am hoping to get that 85 case split. I forgot all that was tolt to me on the 85 frame about papers and stuff. If I run into to much trouble getting this engine going I was thinking on picking up a running enging so I will have something for Pismo. I have to much going on to get bogged with a problem getting a part I don't have. I got a sub frame for the 95....welll I got two, just in case I loop the bike on the street
