Re: af or steel
I only have one major complaint with the newer style 500 and that is in sugar sand where I ride in FL the bike has bad steering issues but in other terrain it steers OK.The Stock one is a great bike and has more forgiveness in the ride compared to a AF.delirious wrote:i'm not going to motox just a hs sometime or just ride it. thanks for the help

if your just going to ride it on ocassion, youll never be able to tell a difference between cr250 and 450x, convert your 450x before the motor blows up and renders it useless.
1- you have the chassis already. pull the motor and sell it for a decent price while it still runs good. buy a decent early-mid 90's cr500 for $1500, hell theres some good mid-80's cr500 for $1000/offer, pull that cr500 motor and part out the rolling chassis for $300-$500...i dont know what a good running 450x motor will get on ebay but i doubt you would be into your whole conversion $1000 (probly less than $1000), out of pocket after its all said and done.
2- buy a good complete conversion already done for $6000
granted i dont see things the same way as everyone else but this looks like a no brainer to me

Keep the 450x sell the motor, carb, electronics and pipe use that money to put a 94 or later CR500 motor in it run a lighting coil and it still has a green sticker if your in Cali and you can ride anywhere year round.
