I figure the weight of us, the gear, and the sled at around 700 lbs of so.... more than 100lbs PER dog..... and we were going up 20 degree inclines at times.
These dogs can PULL!!!!

Wow, those are definetly not the dogs I would expect to see doing that. Looks neat though, not something I have ever done.

Thats what I thought too, but the guides said these dogs are the real deal.... Parts Husky, Malumute, and Greyhound.

How far did you travel with them? Do they have to stop for breaks or anything, or do they just keep on motorin' along until you instruct them otherwise?

some of the locals here still travel by dog team,mostly elders but theres a few young guys trying to keep tradition alive,I think there is about 7-8 people still doing it,they travel hundreds of miles.They don't use the stand up style sleds here though they sit on top of they're load,they are called Qammutiqs in Inuktitut,back in the 70's when Gjoa Haven was a new community dog team was the only mode of transport until snowmobiles started coming around,They still have dogteam races every spring,they start on the shore by town and race to a barrel on the ocean,I think they do about a 50 mile round trip.
