Removing powdercoat from aluminum.....

Post by pimp559 »

I'm getting ready to strip the powdercoat off my cases and wanna know what you all use as far as a stripper? I have used the Aircraft paint remover/stripper before but it was a little too much labor. I still had to scrub off the powdercoat with the stripper. Does anyone know what the cost is to have them media blasted also?

I used aircraft remover and a wire wheel on a drill to get the crap off of four swingarms takes a few coats and a bunch of elbow grease but I think its still cheaper than media blasting. unless you have your own blasting cabinet.....

just take it to a shop that does chrome and powdercoating and they will probably blast it for you for like $20-$40 maybe even just a 12-pack. :D

I had thought about that but would have to pull all the bearings. The one that the shift drum rides in and the tiny water pump ones allways get messed up when I take them out which would cost even more $$. If I could get another Ho on the books I wouldn't have to worry about the $$$ :D

Are you talking about the black paint that they come stock with? I used that aircraft crap and it came right off. Just wait the 20 minutes they recommend.
