gotta newish cylinder

Post by aloha450x »

i picked up a newish cylinder. it's stock bore and pro x piston. my question is if i plate it and the piston what would be a ball park life before having to rebuild it? also how much does us chrome cost. and whats the going rate on a used cylinder 90.5 1 hour with a wiseco? looking to sell it i think. thanks

2006 supermoto. its super badass. easy to work on and valve checks are a breeze. two problems 1. it's a four stroke. 2. no kicker e-start only. it has a bad batt right now and i have to jump it all the time with speaker wire. hahaha new batt wont be in for 2 weeks. weak huh. i just have to be careful not to stall it otherwise i have to ask for a jump. it's not mine. friend loaned it to me to sooth my woes while mine is built. If your new jug is stock bore why the nikasil coating?Ya can't see bling when its inside the engine, just ride it and buy a new piston in a couple yrs and bore it if ya have to or hone it and throw it back together,I'm not totally sure what the life span of a piston is but I know after a season of riding my 86 the piston still rides/looks the same as when I got the bike and I ride it like I stole it,If your keeping a eye on your piston like you should be and running a safe premix ratio you'll more than likely see a problem before it becomes a bigger problem, why not coat the 90.5 jug or bore it to 91 and then coat it to pick up a few extra cc's if your gonna get one coated? seems like a waste of money to me,nikasil coating or not if your not watching for signs of wear and tear your still gonna screw up your cylinder walls if your piston goes boom in there.

I think the coating pays for itself if you can avoid having to get it bored 3 or 4 times + the downtime if you don't have someone local that can do it with a torque plate.
