couple of questions??

Post by smokindodge »

First off I am a NOOB so cut me some slack  I just bought my second 500 and I had a couple questions.

First is the chain slider on the swingarm, the dealer wants a swingarm and a leg for them, and you can't find them anywhere else. I remember reading somewhere that guys were using xr650 sliders on them. Does this ring any bells? What are some of your recommendations on this?

Second: Behind the kick starter where the shaft goes into the case was cracked by the previous owner. You know that kind of half-round piece back there. He said that the foot brake lever got bent so when you would kick it over it would put a funny torque on the kick starter. It was welded very nicely and the clearance is good on the kicker now. Have any of you seen this in the past? How do the repair jobs usually hold up on the cases? Thanks guys I appreciate your input.

I dont know about the slider I aint had to replace one yet, what year is the bike I might have an old one somewhere.

If the case is welded properly it should be fine.

I just replaced one on my 97 AF, so id guess about 10 years if ridden.

Edit : Are you talking about the one thats by the countershaft wrapped around the swingarm or the on by the rear sprocket? I was talking about the one by the countershaft.

I am looking for the one that wraps around the front of the swingarm.

The kicker is fine. Mine was cracked too, its from the bike falling on a rock or somthing that slams the kicker popping the back part of the case. Its been welded for a few years now going strong...

You can get lots of aftermarket swingarm sliders, TT has them just like Nick said. That be your best bet. They are polyurethane so they last way longer then OEM rubba...
