Choke on PWK carb

Post by HrcRacing »

I have a 39mm PWK carb on my 500 and have noticed that it doesn't seem to like to start with the choke on. My former 450's wanted to be choked on the first start of the day regardless of temp.

Today, at around 70F, my 500 wouldn't start until I took the choke off then first kick it started. I let it cool for several hours and started it, no choke, first kick.

Are others experiencing this? Does temperature determine when to use the choke on the 500?

Sorry if these are "DUH" questions, it's just that I've ridden 450's for the past six years and they've made me stupid. :yikes:

Thanks!

The pilot is prolly' too big.
Most 500 dudes with PWK's run about a #40 with the air screw about 1.5 turns out.

I run a #60 pilot in my PWK and it starts first kick regardless of choke position :|

I'm not sure what pilot is in there now. I'll check that and post it.

Thanks!
