The tennis racket grip trick...
The tennis racket grip trick...
For those of you who havnt seen this before here a few pics and a quick run down...
If you are like me, the Wookie, and Jay Bone, you know huge hands dont like tiny grips. And if you are like Danny and Brit and have 85 year old main bearings, you will aprreciate this trick as well!!
I personally like to wheelie from time to time and get stuck riding in really rough sand (lots of head shake) so I end up getting cramps/pains in my palms more then I get arm pump. Rumor is the smaller the grips, less arm pump, larger, more arm pump. I personally would trade vibe dampening and comfort for a little arm pump any day, so here goes...
Go to Wally World and buy some cheap "grip tape" for Tennis/Hockey, etc. I used "Wilson". You get 3 wraps and each wrap is plenty enough for 2 grips. So for around $5 you get enough for 3 grip changes...
Use your method of "glue" my preferred is this little gem, its like a hot maid, you can used it for what its "designed" but the real fun starts when you use your imagination...
Clean your bars with some thinner or carb cleaner and a rag or paper towel...
Smear your favorite goop on in a thin layer (the stuff I use never "dries" it just gets super tacky, perfect for what we are doing) traditional "grip glue" drys up way to fast. Then just like electrical tape start wrappin your pole.
They give you these little sticky tape things that work great after you trim the end of your tape flush and hold the ends well while you get your grip ready...
Spread your goop on the first half or so of the tape starting from the bar end. Use a thin layer and only go half way or so to avoid using too much goo...
While that is getting tacky grab you grips and spread a little goo in the first 1/3 or so. The idea again is to end up with good coverage without making a huge gooey mess and wasting all that good stuff!!
Once you are all setup and the goo has got nice and tacky grab your grip spray a quick shot of carb spray in your grip and a quick shot on the tape, this insantly softens the goo and makes it real slippery!! Sounds like tons of fun eh?? Now quickly before the carb spray evaps, slam the grip on the pole with a slight twisting motion, even girls can do it!! (for some reason they are GREAT at this part)...
After the carb spray evaps out the grips will be pretty well stuck. I usually do this at least the day before a ride to give time for the goo to really set up well.
I used the biggest softest grips I could find. These are Gell grips from "Pro Grip". They worked excellent on the hundy so I put them on the Fo Fitty this time...
No that is not Marjawanna by the way...

Cool writeup man
Some things to go over with you tho....
1. Drop the gloves, you aint a surgeon and soft hands on a guy are a major fag statement
2. Fire up the weedwacker more than once a season
3. You run HUGE grips, I think you like them due to having E.T. hands...
