Iggy, I got a chain question

Post by Ported&Polished »

I have a DID XRing chain, it's the clipless kind.Bob said you know the way to connect it together without a rivet tool. Please explain this to me, or I will be buying a tool I may never use again, because I always get the clip kind of chain.

I used the hammer method on my go-cart chain when I was a kid, worked great!

Well thats close.

I don't use that type of master anymore, however if you have a air hammer/rivet gun, what I used, grind a set down to a punch like point, get a heavy metal bar for the back and give it a few good hits. Careful it doesn't slip off, thats not something anyone wants to go into your hand. Ouch!

What I'm doing now is I went to the DID site and found a master that is near as I could find to the tensile strength of the ERV2 chain (been replaced with the ERV3). I think an MX2 link was it? Yes it is.

I made mine work, hope it stays. I used a heavy block of iron and a hammer, then used a c clamp and a small socket to move the pin back so it is centered nicely.

It doesn't take much to kept the side plate from coming off. Its just unnerving because I'm not use to running that kind of clip. Then theres the prob of getting it off, well the chain breaker worked.
