New Piston Ordered!
New Piston Ordered!
Got the cylinder off and the old cracked piston removed.
On closer inspection it turns out it was a PROX piston at 0.25 over.
I couldn't see the 25 stamped on the top of the piston until i cleaned the carbon deposits off.
Anyways, I have ordered an new PROX piston at 0.50 over off ebay.
Prices from the US including postage are cheaper than any I can find in the UK.
Gonna get a reccommended local dirtbike mechanic to get the cylinder re-bored and the ports claned-up as soon as the piston arrives.
Can't wait to get her going again.

When the new one comes in, take 15 minutes and a piece of 240 wet/dry sandpaper rip you off a strip, fold it over til its the size of a pencil and lightly break all the sharp edges around the skirt. A bit easier on the piston and cylinder during the break in phase.

lewisclan,
My missus isn't really into bikes...
When I had to give up the road bike, I decided to get a 'crosser and give the whole off-road thing a go.
We've recently moved house and there are a few local MX tracks which works out nicely too.
I got myself a Husaberg FC600, but fancied a CR500 too, as my cousin had one and it was just bonkers.
Well, one came up at the right price and I just could't let it go, so I bought it and stored it in my cousin's garage.
My reasoning for keeping the 2 bike was that if one needed maintenence, I'd always have the 2nd one ready to go.
I didn't tell the missus because I thought she would go berzerk.
I bought myself a second shed to store the Husaberg in, as it was taking up too much room in the garden shed with lawnmowers, tools etc in there.
It was at this point I realized that I could fit the CR into the second hut along with the Husaberg, so I sneaked it in one evening without her knowledge.
Anyway, we gave the garden shed a tidying-out over the Xmas holidays and I had to move a pile of bike stuff from the garden shed over to my bike shed.
Whilst building a set of shelves in the bike shed to store the stuff on, the missus comes back from walking the dogs and asked to see how I'm getting on....
Well, the Husaberg is sitting outside the shed to give me some space inside to put up the shelving (the CR is also in the shed).
I try to palm her off with some crap story..."It's just a set of shelves, you don't really want to see them.....Do You??"
Well, turns out she REALLY DID want to see the shelves.
When I opened the door, revealing the CR, her face was a picture.
"What the F*%K is that?" she asked.
I calmed her down by teling her I got it for alot less money than I actually did!
She didn't go as mental as I expected, not bad really.
So she knows about BOTH bike now.
I'm now saving up for another road bike.
She knows about this one this time and doesn't seem to be bothered.
RESULT!!!

getting off topic here but you guys need to condition your wifes not keep em in the dark. I went home sunday night and there where so many pkg`s in the hall. Like 8-10 she just pulls them in the door when she gets home like its no big deal. we are talking years of training ....... Not years of doing things behind her back. being up front and open with your wife is the only way to be .

Shit man, you guys don't know my wife. I have been conditioning her and shes cool with the bike. the money becomes an isue, so some stuff comes to the house and some to work. She gets pissed when I tell her not to buy something stupid because we don't have any money, then some packages show up... makes for a nasty fight. Plus shipping to work works out well because they think its a shop, so I get special treatment sometimes when I lead vendors to believe we are a bike shop
My wife got pissed about the N2O idea because she thinks I'm going to kill myself with it... I guess I can't get too mad at her for that

One of the only things that is a downer about having a home office. My wife won't even mention the bike, except to say something negative about how I am going to kill myself. If she only knew me back when I had the 85'...dannygraves wrote:Yeah, I mentioned some N2O possibilities in my future and the wifey went ape shit! Money ain't got no owners, only spenders - Omar Little
Got the rebored cylinder back today.
Fitted the new 89.5mm PRO-X piston and cylinder tonight.
Turned the engine over a few times to make sure everything was turning as it should be.
Holy shit!
This thing has now got some SERIOUS compression.
It was easy to start before, now I'm not so sure.....
Should get the rest of the bike back together tomorrow night and run-in for the weekend.
Will let you kow how it goes..... Hopefully not to A&E!

Yes, bridge relieved as per manual.
Put a little 2stroke oil in the jug and turned her over a few times before the cylinder head went on.
Everything was moving smoothly and easily as it should.
Tried it again with the head bolted down and the spark plug in place and it's a different ball game!
Hoping to get her finished and fired-up tomorrow night.
